In response to Jeff Robertson’s letter in the April 25 Forum (“Where was God?”), he’s with you in Orland Hills, Jeff! Whether you believe or not, have little faith or are an atheist, he’s with you always.
There is evil in our world, Jeff. The devil prowls the darkness looking for victims to carry out his dastardly deeds. God gave all of us free will to either listen to his word or walk by ourselves. Tragedies happen, and we don’t have the answer(s) why.
Jeff, may I suggest you start small and thank God you were born. Think of all the good that is in this world and the never-ending life to come to those who believe in Jesus Christ. God wants everyone to be saved, but you have to want to do your part.
Torture covered up
Lost in all the tragic news recently from Boston and Texas was an independent commission’s report that the United States was indisputably “engaged in the practice of torture” during the George W. Bush administration.
The 11-member commission consisted of notable conservatives, including a former chairman of a National Rifle Association task force, a former director of the FBI under President George H.W. Bush and that president’s UN ambassador.
The report established that the Bush-Cheney interrogation techniques had “no justification” and were used “across a wide range of theaters.” Bush and senior aides were responsible for spreading those illegal techniques while there was no evidence that the torture produced anything of significant value, according to the report.
Those “enhanced” interrogation techniques violated the International Convention Against Torture, signed by President Ronald Reagan and are condemned by us when used by Syria, Tunisia, Iran and others.
At the least, those who practice torture should be outed by the media and vilified by the public. At the most, they should be brought to justice, no matter who they are. Wrong knows no international borders.
I think there’s still hope that the automatic love affair between the media and the Obama administration might be changing. Perhaps, what I call “the Obamacrats” are now getting to see what the president is trying to do to all of us and our country.
Any person with any common sense should be able to see that he wants to change our once-great republic into a socialist state, where we will end up like Cyprus and some of the other European countries.
Our country has been pretty successful since 1776. There’s no reason to drastically change our ways. But that is exactly what this president is trying to do in just eight short years. If we let him succeed, we’ll be like Cyprus, broke!
