It was bright and sunny on Earth Day this year as I joined representatives from the city of Chicago and Coca-Cola as well as Mayor Rahm Emanuel for their announcement that Coca-Cola would be funding the purchase of 50,000 blue carts to extend recycling to every house and small apartment building in Chicago.
My own community, the Historic Pullman District in the 9th Ward, had blue carts delivered recently, eliciting excited reaction among neighbors.
Often, we can achieve more by working together. In this case, the partnership between business and government should be applauded. This is a great example of teamwork that will produce positive results for Chicago communities.
