Forum: Act on Lockport police chief

Updated: December 2, 2013 11:19AM

I’m a concerned citizen who has been an auxiliary police officer for 20 years and am writing to address concerns I have about Lockport not having a permanent police chief after more than a year.

Acting Police Chief Dave Draksler has been doing a great job for Lockport. More than 95 percent of police officers believe he is the right choice to replace the previous chief.

We were told that the mayor has been contacting outside sources to perhaps locate a new chief. There’s no need to do this when we have an acting chief who’s doing what needs to be done and has put into place a five-year plan for the department, which is operating well.

The citizens of Lockport need to have a decision made regarding a police chief. Why hasn’t this been taken care of already? Are there political motives involved?

I want to bring this situation to the attention of the city’s residents so they can voice their opinions and let the mayor know how they feel.

Obamacare badly flawed

With all of the ruckus about Obamacare, one would think that the president would get the message that there may indeed be major flaws in it. I also doubt that the president has even read the law.

Some of you may also remember that U.S. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said the law would have to be passed to find out what’s in it. And who could possibly forget that only Democrats voted to pass it. And some of those were lame ducks. I guess that’s what happens when a community activist with a leviathan ego gets elected by individuals who still believe in all that hope and change prattle.
