As a somewhat new resident of Hazel Crest, I am appalled at the way village board meetings are conducted. I am happy not to have been party to what must have been a tumultuous time in village politics over the past 10 years or possibly more.
I do know that the amount of vitriol displayed biweekly during the meetings is beyond unacceptable. The breakdown in leadership is evident. From name calling to the tomfoolery of political grandstanding, nothing meaningful is accomplished during these meetings.
Leadership demands discipline and focus. Mayor Vernard Alsberry must lead by example. The lack of decorum during these meetings is utterly disgraceful and reflects negatively on the village and its residents.
It’s obvious that there are elected officials on this board who lack the ability to leave the past behind and move forward with the business of the village.
The people of Hazel Crest have spoken, electing each of you. Respect our decision. The past is the past. Understand that we will not tolerate this misbehavior any longer. We citizens are the watchdogs and will hold you accountable for your failure to lead and legislate.
