Michael Murphy rappelling down theWit in honor of his mother, who died of cancer, brought tears to my eyes. I send a hug to those who are missing their moms on Mother’s Day.

Who do these aldermen and mayor think they are? They want to tell the people how to live and what to drink. When they start paying my bills, then they can tell me what to do. Until then they should mind their own business. I’m getting tired of this nonsense. They are not fooling anybody. These taxes, like an increase in soda tax, are all just a way to make money.

If you want to get into a heated argument, just mention the words “gun control.” Our murder rate compared with other countries is high. Some people’s answer to this is gun ownership is our constitutional right. I guess that statement is right because we have the numbers to prove it.

Why can’t President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden worry about the economy instead of gay marriages? Gay marriages will not put food on the table. Obama and Biden must go in November. They have done nothing except put the United States closer into a depression in the past four years.

No soliciting means no soliciting. We don’t want you ringing the door bell. We don’t want you leaving flyers. Leave us alone.

---

People are complaining about Chicago Bull Derrick Rose making millions of dollars while the government is picking our pockets for trillions. Rose doesn’t tax me. Wise up, people!

---

I don’t think they should be trying to pit mother vs. mother. So what if one mother works and the other mother stays at home. So what if one mother is poorer and the other mother is wealthier. So what if one has help from a nanny and the other one has help from the grandmother or no help at all. All that matters is if the children are safe and taken care of.

You can have the best union in the world, but if you didn’t have a company to back it up, you didn’t have a job or a union. The problem with the public-sector unions is they don’t need a company to back them up. They have the taxpayers to back them up. Every time the state goes deeper in debt, they just laugh it off and hand out more raises. Illinois is in terrible debt right now. It doesn’t seems to matter to these people.

---

We understand that you want to exercise your animals. But can you let them go to the bathroom in your own yard? Don’t let them go on somebody else’s lawn and then just walk away. I’m going to start taking pictures and turning them in to the police.

---

Let’s learn from Europe. You do not slash spending in a weak economy. When you do, it increases unemployment, spreads poverty and puts an economy back into a recession. Our economy is slowly recovering because we have taken steps in the United States to stimulate it. Austerity measures hurt the average person, as we have seen in Europe. We all need to read about the retired senior citizen who committed suicide in Greece. It’s time for the middle class to stop paying for the mess created by the greedy banks and Wall Street.

A SouthtownStar front page read, “Orland Park man tells of his trip to hell and back.” Was it about his experience in Iraq or Afghanistan? No, it was about heroin addiction. “Man”? It sounds like a little boy who, in his 23 years, has abused and sold drugs, shoplifted, stolen from his parents and fathered an illegitimate child. His mother said that she was embarrassed of his addiction and didn’t want people to know. Well, they know now. She should be embarrassed. I’d much rather read about real people who have been through real hell than a boy’s criminal past.

The SouthtownStar’s investigative reports have uncovered extensive alleged corruption and abuse of taxpayers’ money in Country Club Hills. It seems like the end is not in sight. The SouthtownStar has opened our eyes to government fraud and also opened our minds to the need to eradicate this corruption at the core.

The 120 fetuses that were recently buried at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Chicago’s Mount Greenwood community did not give birth to themselves. Where were the parents who abandoned their offspring? There should be less criticism of Homewood Memorial Gardens and more responsibility for those who did not care enough to bury their own.

Alfie from Richton Park

How dare the Caterpillar workers go on strike in this day and age? I’ve been out of work for two years. I’d gladly take that job. Where can I sign up to cross their picket line?

---

Why do we seem to have an epidemic of seagulls all of a sudden? I remember there being too many pigeons. I wonder if the seagulls ate all of the pigeons. And why do people feel the need to feed these nasty birds?

---

Why is the United States propping up all of these economies all over the world with foreign aid when we can’t even fix our own economy? Fix America’s economy before you throw taxpayers’ money around the globe.

---

To the Speak Out commenter who got offended with all the remarks about the Link card: Like the old saying goes, the truth hurts. Why should people’s hard-earned money go to people who don’t want to work and end up getting free health care, free phones, etc., while there are people who really need help and get denied? That’s why there are so many people mad about the Link card.
