Strip malls everywhere have empty stores. Even the big corporations are closing stores. We cannot afford another four years of President Obama. We have to change with a new face in the White House.

I was really bad at math in high school. My teacher was really tough on me. I didn’t take the easy way out by playing the race card or blaming it on my neighborhood or any other excuse. I took responsibility and worked hard. I’m glad she was tough on me. We still keep in touch to this day.

I really don’t think this is a good time for the village of Tinley Park to lobby state government for funding of a bike path. In case the village trustees haven’t noticed, the state of Illinois is broke. If they want to do something useful with the taxpayers’ money, why don’t they figure out how to keep the Tinley Park Mental Health Center open?

Who contributes to unwed moms but deadbeat dads? It takes a man to be there and be a dad to his children. Rather than handouts, the welfare system needs to locate and crack down on deadbeat parents.

Vice President Joe Biden is a loose cannon. You never know what is going to come out of his mouth. I question the wisdom of the present administration keeping him on the ticket for 2012.

Why don’t so many vehicle owners from South Holland remove their numerous expired village stickers? Isn’t that mandatory?

Why should Crete, a still quaint and folksy small town with buildings and markers from the past, be a place for a detention center? Why ruin this beautiful piece of Americana? Send the detention center to the harbor city of Chicago. There are many empty buildings there.

To the Speak Out contributors who continue to make the claim that some god granted you free will: That statement is inconsistent with the existence of an omniscient being. Since you claim your god knows all things, including what will occur, then only one potential future exists. That is the one known by your god. Since only one future can exist, you are powerless to change it. Since only one future is possible, that which is known by your god, how are you powerful enough to select a different path? If you make the claim that your god knows all possible futures, then your god is even more unimpressive.

In regards to the fight between St. Rita and St. Laurence high schools: I am absolutely appalled by the actions of both teams. As a former local baseball player, it makes me sick to my stomach to see such hatred from both teams toward each other. I always thought that Catholic schooling would teach these boys peace, love and hard work, not hate, violence and deception. Both St. Rita and St. Laurence players should be ashamed of themselves, not only because they made fools of their schools and family, but for making a mockery of the game of baseball.

One of these days, the politicians in Illinois will find a way to tax us for breathing air. The damage that they have caused with greed is disgusting. It should stop, but it never ever will.

To the Speak Out commenter who didn’t understand “born on third, thinks he got a triple”: This is a great song lyric by Pearl Jam in reference to former President George W. Bush. It’s basically saying that he was born into a privileged life by having a president for a father, and actually believed he accomplished a lot during his life and presidency independent of this advantage.

Well, the NATO summit meetings are over. Listening to the news on television, it went over very well. I think business owners, people who work in downtown Chicago and the real people of Chicago have a different point of view. If any of the foreign dignitaries were looking for a model for a police state, they saw an excellent example. I think we could have made a much better showing of a beautiful and functional city by hosting the 2012 Olympics. Yes, I live in the suburbs where trains and expressways take us to work unencumbered.

Come on, people! Don’t be lazy. When going shopping, pick up that shopping cart outside. This way you won’t have to wait for one or have to complain that there isn’t one in the store. And for heaven’s sake, don’t leave the carts in the disabled parking spot.

To the Speak Out commenter who wants to take pictures and send them to police of animals being walked for exercise: I have geese, rabbits, birds, ducks and cats urinating on my lawn. What shall the police do to them? Come on! Don’t sweat the small stuff.

Way to go, Chicago White Sox! Way to sweep those sorry Chicago Cubs out of Wrigley Field, their own sorry stadium. And yes, he was throwing at Sox player Paul Konerko.

It is my belief that you cannot truly be a Republican and a Christian at the same time. The two have too many conflicts between each other. Therefore, I believe that people who vote Republican are not truly Republican at heart. To say you’re a Christian Republican is an oxymoron.

It’s wonderful when the weather cooperates and you can sit outside enjoying a good book and the sounds and sights of nature. I hope those good days keep coming.
