I was excited to hear that Cheesecake Factory is coming to Orland Park. We in the Southland and especially Orland are spoiled in a good way by all these great restaurants.

St. Rita and St. Laurence high school baseball teams put on a disgusting display of unsportsmanlike conduct, beginning with a clear attempt by two players to hurt each other. Players and coaches from both squads unveiled a shameful show as they rumbled at home plate before the coaches continued exchanging remarks. These schools claim to provide an education centered in Catholic values and to incorporate their faith in every aspect of their lives. If the players can’t take a little flack on the ball field, God help us when they hit the real world!

Chicago wants to put an additional tax on soda drinks stating health reasons. Yeah, right. What’s next? A tax on the air that your breathe?

I know women in their 70s who had babies before marriage. Nowadays more women have professions. As far as name-calling, that is childish. What she does is nobody’s business. The ones who keep having babies to abuse welfare, well, yes that affects us all.

---

Maybe President Obama is in line for a Las Vegas show with all of his singing, dancing and late-night comedy.

---

The definition of theft is “to take someone’s property against their will by force or fraud.” With taxes there is no clause that says “unless the government takes the property, then it is no longer theft.” There also is no clause that says it is not theft if government has a better idea for the use of this stolen property, or a majority of your neighbors via vote can legally steal from you just because they want a certain program. When did public school teachers stop telling students this definition? When they started lining their pockets with their neighbors’ property.

---

Kudos to the Chicago Police Department and Chicago Polic Supt. Garry McCarthy for their restraint and cool demeanor in the face of the rowdy NATO protesters. Black Bloc? What is the definition of that group? Dress in black, cover your face, scream and yell, throw projectiles and then run away and cry police brutality. The police were too gentle if you ask me.

Apparently the group that invaded the Ashford House Restaurant in Tinley Park was an antiracism organization. Now let me get this straight. To fight racism, it is OK to terrorize people of your own race to promote your agenda? So just how do these “terrorists” define “oppression,” where they can beat up anyone they choose in their quest to suppress perceived racism. Is it me, or does it seem that there are some contradictions here?

I so agree with the Speak Out comment that you cannot be a Republican and a Christian at the same time. I especially with that comment when the Republicans have no trouble with terminating the life of an unborn child. Oh wait, never mind.

Quit getting angry about welfare for poor people. Get angry about the welfare the United States gives to the wealthy. At least when you give the poor assistance, they put that money right back into the economy. When you give oil companies millions in subsidies or welfare, it only helps make the oil companies richer. Think about it.

Regarding Lincoln Mall in Matteson: I agree with the Speak Out commenter who stated that there are reasons why malls lose customers. There are underlying reasons why things like that happen. Customers are finicky. At one time Lincoln Mall was the in place to shop. Now, it is not. It is ironic that Lincoln Mall literally shut down good stores in Chicago Heights and Park Forest. Now the shoe is on the other foot. Lincoln Mall is at the receiving end of what they did to others.

Can you believe our Illinois politicians actually came together and passed some legislation? Too bad it was to do away with the state’s scholarship program. Instead of investigating the scandals and abuse, which the SouthtownStar and the Chicago Sun-Times had already done for them, they chose to take away a program designed to help those less fortunate. I guess this way it takes away the chance some of them might end up like a couple of our former governors. It’s just another example of how our state representatives only represent themselves and those who are politically connected.

What’s this new Chicago Cubs way? It’s May and they’re already out of playoff contention.

As gasoline prices have been slowly decreasing in the last few weeks, the prices recently increased 30 cents a gallon. What was the reason when I asked? The Memorial Day weekend was the answer I received. If that does not fit the definition of price gouging, I don’t know what will.

If there is someone out there who knows how to work the system and get government aid on everything, let me know because I’m working and have many bills. I am a U.S citizen, and I’m struggling.

---

It’s unreal that some parents don’t know how to discipline their kids when they are in grocery stores or any other public places. My parents would not tolerate that behavior from me or my sibling. I think it’s time that parents stop trying to be a pal and start putting their foot down.
