The more I see actor Peter Dinklage, the more I am impressed with what he can do. His work on HBO’s “Game of Thrones” has helped to draw me in to this show.

I hope people still go to the Ashford House Restaurant in Tinley Park. The restaurant was the victim of a horrible incident. They should be supported.

I’m a fireman’s wife who wanted to make note of this. Every year the Steger Fire Department puts a fireman’s flag and a pot of geraniums on the graves of deceased firemen. This takes a lot of time and effort to locate each grave at Calvary Catholic and Evergreen Hills cemeteries and then place the flag and flowers. Its uplifting to walk to the grave of a loved one and see the flag and flowers. I wanted to extend a big thanks to the Steger Fire Department for their great effort.

I would like to know why smokers are being singled out for such a high tax. Why not drinkers? Why not a dollar-per-bottle tax on alcohol? Drinking is a far more dangerous to the general population than smoking. I’ve never heard of anyone getting behind the wheel after a cigarette, and killing anyone as a result of it. I’d say it’s probably because lawmakers, including Gov. Pat Quinn, are drinkers and not smokers. Come on, let’s be fair. Every time you put a new tax on cigarettes, put a new tax on alcohol.

To the Speak Out commenter who said the Chicago White Sox are good at trouncing a minor league team. No matter how good or bad the Chicago Cubs are, the Sox usually own the Cubs during the regular season. I’d be a liar if I said I expected the Sox to sweep the Cubs at Wrigley Field during the Crosstown Classic. I honestly didn’t. I did, however, expect the Sox to win at least two out of three like they normally do. Whether it’s a good team or bad team on your schedule, you still have to play the game.

Rich people don’t create jobs. Business owners’ only job is to make money. They only hire more workers when consumer demand for goods and services is high enough. Consumer demand creates jobs. I believe that rich people are paying the lowest taxes since the 1950s, and where are all the jobs? Middle-class Americans have seen their real income, i.e. buying power, decrease. That’s why there are fewer jobs. The masses don’t have the money to buy the goods that create jobs. Henry Ford would not have sold one car if his workers did not make enough money to buy it.

I’m the Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau public relations manager. I noticed a Speak Out comment from Burbank about visitors to the Southland. The Chicago Southland Convention & Visitors Bureau provides a wealth of information about lodging, restaurants and attractions including hundreds of regional festivals and events. We promote and market the Southland as an affordable family destination where visitors can experience the splendor of Lake Katherine, stand in awe at the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park, cheer with 20,000 fans for the Chicago Fire at Toyota Park, and much more. Check out our website, visitchicagosouthland.com, or call (708) 895-8200.

In some cultures it is very bad manners to deliberately speak in a language that someone else present does not understand. I consider it very rude. If you cannot speak the English language, then go back to Eastern Europe.

Who says religious people don’t receive gifts from Santa on Christmas or hunt for eggs, get baskets and eat chocolate bunnies on Easter? Who says religious people don’t shop for sales during these holidays? Who says only straight people can be religious? Don’t lie now. It’s a sin. We all should be grateful for those holidays. Without them, we’d have no sales, or gifts, eggs, baskets and bunnies. As for the definition of marriage, to each their own! Love, and let love.

I took an informal drive-around survey of my block on Memorial Day. I was curious about how many homes displayed the U.S. flag. The result was 12 of 61 (20 percent) homes displayed a flag. This is in sharp contrast to my recollections in the 1960s and ’70s when flags were shown more prominently. I suppose many now think that displaying the flag is too much of a bother or is an act of jingoism, or they are clueless to all that they have that was paid for with the blood of others. Patriotism seems to be lost to many.

Why is it when people complain about the liberal news media slanting the news, they never make mention about the right-wing news media doing the same thing? If one side shouldn’t slant the news, neither should the other.

If Crete does not want the immigration detention center built there, how about building it in Markham, Harvey or Blue Island? We can use the tax money for jobs. We all know we have enough illegal immigrants here.

When it comes to ads running against Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, why should President Obama’s ads tiptoe through the tulips when a super political action committee is throwing everything at you but the kitchen sink?

I would like to thank the staff of lab workers who work for Advocate South Suburban Hospital. Jennifer, Angie and Pat sent me a card of thanks. I had no idea that I made such an impression on you giving you my tip on the use of Vitamin E.
