Teachers recently marched in Chicago for better terms. I wonder how many parents actually marched with them in support.

Of course, the weather became cold and wet. The kids are getting out of school. Come back, summer heat.

The Speak Out photo from the film “Yankee Doodle Dandy” caught my eye, and I so agree with the comments. It is a favorite film thanks to my dad. We watched it together every year until he passed away. He reminded me of entertainer George M. Cohan. Both were true patriots and epitomized the love of God, family and country. May their tribe increase.

Another tax hike is coming. The Illinois Senate has passed a 5 percent tax on satellite TV provider revenues. Wow! It seems like they come up with something new every week. What’s next — a fresh air tax? What a state and county, Illinois and Cook County have become. It’s time to move out.

The thought of Republican Mitt Romney winning the presidential election really scares me. But then I say to myself, that maybe the United States needs another disaster like we experienced under former President George Bush to wake up and realize that Republican policies only benefit the wealthy. We have such short memories. When are we going to realize that tax cuts for the wealthy do not create jobs? Why do we want a president who wants to partially privatize Medicare? And, most importantly, why would we vote for someone who is a warmonger?

The whole world was watching the NATO Summit. What did they see? They saw the pride and integrity of the Chicago Police Department.

These are sad times to be a politician. Their morals are as low as they go. Anyone can buy any of them for a price and, at best, they act like they care a bit. But it’s a great time to be a politician if you’re greedy and are capable of losing your morals. Are there any poor politicians? During these trying times politicians don’t cut their pay, retirement benefits or health insurance. They should be ashamed to be politicians.

South Korea has done what needs to be done with rapists. Instead of sending him to prison, a serial rapist was chemically castrated. That’s justice. He will not rape again.

Police need to look into the bars serving underage kids. Underaged people can often get into the bars because the bar does not card before 9 p.m. Once they are in, their identification is never checked for alcohol purchases. Once word gets out, kids flock there. The police should check into this.

I’m tired of these politicians telling me when I can smoke, what I can eat and what I can drink. I think it’s time for them to wake up. This is a free country. I’ll just go to Indiana to buy my cigarettes. Politicians are not hurting me. They are only hurting themselves. They are not going to tell me what I can do.

Are you telling me that the cops and these parents who are outraged by these gang killings can’t do something about it? You can’t tell me that they don’t know who these people are or where they hang out. I don’t care if they are 15 years old or 50 years old. Get rid of them.

I have to laugh. I heard that the Occupy and NATO Summit protestors are demanding money from Chicago for the mental anguish and physical stress the allegedly ferociously brutal Chicago Police Department invoked on them during the protests. They say they have missed work and want compensation. I say to them: Get a job first, then stay there or wherever you came from and not be heard from again. That would be a good start.

Congratulations to the Oak Lawn Public Library for expanding their hours to include Sundays. But shame on the Bridgeview Public Library for the limited hours of operation. They are never open on Sundays, like they were in the past, and they have uneven weekday hours.

It’s too bad we are losing U.S. Attorney Pat Fitzgerald. He will probably be replaced by someone who will use his position to help his party make political advances.

Hurray for Illinois House Minority Leader Tom Cross, a Republican, for calling out Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, a Democrat, for 40 years of gross mismanagement of pension funds. The sad thing is that the lemmings who kept this guy in office don’t and won’t see anything of issue with Madigan that warrants not voting for him. It’s disgusting.

I’m old enough to remember the days when a vagrant or someone unemployed would ask to do odd jobs for money. What happened to those days? Nowadays everyone wants a handout but they don’t want to do anything for it.

I am not better off now than I was three-and-a-half years ago. I want to give someone else a chance to make it better. President Obama had his chance. He is my employee. Due to his performance, I will have to let him go.
