Remember what Chicago White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf, a billionaire, did? Why is everybody jumping on Chicago Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts? Think about the deal Reinsdorf got for U.S. Cellular Field.

Thank you, Oak Forest, and to Mayor Hank Kuspa, the police and fire departments, the motorcycle escorts and the nice people who gave that so-deserving “welcome home” to one of our special sons, Capt. Peter Davidovitch, on June 2. It was a very special day for him, his family, his friends and all the people who honored him with American flags and very proud hearts. Thank you, Peter, for your service.

A Speak Out commenter asked, “Why are three out of four of these tough-guy NATO protesters always wearing a mask?” Most guys will hide their face because they are cowards. Why would anyone hide their face unless they were trying to hide something that they were doing wrong?

To the guy who made a retort to my comment on coaches handpicking kids for varsity, even before they enter high school: Please read Pat Disabato’s SouthtownStar column about Kevin Smith transferring to Lincoln-Way North High School in Frankfort from St. Laurence High School in Burbank for his senior year. Don’t give me this stuff about if you think your kid is good enough but not playing, talk to the varsity coach. Here is a news flash. The coach doesn’t want to hear it from the kid or the parent. The coach cast that die a few years before.

We have gone from a welfare state to a foster care state. Stop giving money so freely to foster care. Does anyone check on some of these homes? There are great ones, but in my 36 years in education I experienced mothers taking in more than two children, sitting at home and living off this money, which was way over $1,000 per child each month. Many try to get their children labeled special education so they can get more money. They also get free health care. If they adopt these children they still receive money.

Please stop making us see stories about former Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson. He’s an egomaniac who loves seeing his picture in the paper. I and many others are tired of him. Let his trial get under way, tell us what the verdict is and be done. I don’t care that he is angry and bored. I am sure his deceased wife Kathleen Savio and his probably deceased wife Stacy Peterson weren’t happy to be murdered, and their families miss them terribly. Just please stop!

Several Speak Out contributors have said evil and suffering in the world is not caused by God, but occurs due to man’s free will. This does not take into account natural disasters and diseases, which are not caused by anyone’s free will. Many individuals commit horrible crimes, causing suffering to others. Are the perpetrators of such crimes exercising their free will? If we say “yes,” we are acknowledging they could have acted differently. But could they have? Aren’t we often inclined to say that such people are mentally ill? If they’re mentally ill, are they really exercising their free will?

Say what you must about our utility companies in Illinois, but Nicor is the best from its customer service to technicians showing up right on time. We’d also like to give a shout-out to Allen Heating & Air Conditioning in Justice. Thank you all for your dedication, pride and saving grace. We are still OK.

Regarding the proposed detention center in Crete: Is the divide between the citizens of Crete and village leaders possible to resolve? At a recent meeting, Mayor Michael Einhorn stated he cannot consider the moral implications associated with the prison. If the leaders lack a moral compass, what other decisions might be in Crete’s future? Absolute power corrupts. It’s absolutely time for new leaders who reflect the community.

I want Gov. Pat Quinn to veto the bill that would make state retirees pay insurance premiums. I worked in a state hospital for 34 years. I get no Medicare. My contract stated that if I worked 20 years I would not pay premiums during my retirement. The bill retroactively breaks a contract.

Can we ask Canada or Mexico or even Iraq to send troops over here to Chicago to help us with our war against gangs? It seems like we are sending troops and money all over the world to help other countries. Can’t we get some help in return?

Filibustering and blocking every job-creation bill has successfully been played out since 2008. If Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney becomes president, the Party of No will become the Party of Yes. This footprint was set at a dinner while President Obama was celebrating his election victory. His bed was being made before he could sleep in it.

Tinley Park wants to build apartment buildings. This will be the downfall of the village as it was in Calumet City, Dolton, Lynwood and other suburbs that put in massive apartments. Looks at these areas now and at the individuals who moved in.

I totally agree with the Speak Out commenter about motorcycles. I see motorcycles, too. I see them on Interstate 294 during the evening commute, riding three abreast in a single lane, passing traffic through closed-off construction and riding on the white line between cars. Maybe they should start abiding by the law.
