I want to wish the strikers at the Caterpillar plant in Joliet all the luck in the world. Stand firm. It is outrageous what these corporations are trying to do across the United States with their union-busting tactics.

I have been called several times for my opinions and asked to fill out surveys for many subjects like TV programs, radio stations, newspapers and politics. Yes, there are people who are surveyed.

I am a foster parent. We do not get $1,000 per child each month. I get $430 per month for one child. This is not a lot. These kids do need as much help as they can get after being taken out of their parents’ houses. Some kids do not deserve the parents that they get. They are lucky to have foster parents out there who are willing to take them in. It is a very hard job. It is not as great as some people think it is.

Why do Hollywood elites give so much to President Obama’s reelection campaign yet Obama seems to demonize the rich? They are the rich. Many people put their trust in Hollywood stars and their opinions. We should not think that just because someone is a movie star and has a microphone they are experienced in politics.

Palos Heights

Representatives voted against a bill that would criminalize abortion based on gender. In the United States, we are taking less and less responsibility in making moral decisions so as to not hurt anyone’s feelings. But now we are allowing too much. The arguments for or against abortion in general can be made. But now we are allowing abortions because the child is a boy or a girl. That sounds like China to me. Choose to abort your girls just because they are girls and this country will be China, only without the one-child restriction.

Columnist Pat Disabato is trying to make something out of nothing regarding Kevin Smith’s transfer from St. Laurence High School in Burbank to Lincoln-Way North High School in Frankfort. It’s probably just a financial decision. It probably costs up to $9,000 per year to attend St. Laurence. How much does it cost to go to Lincoln-Way North? He lives a block away from the school. All of his friends go to Lincoln-Way North. The kids should be able to transfer. It just makes common sense especially in these tough economic times.

Bob from Oak Forest

Why doesn’t someone tell poor people to get married and wait five years and save some money before they have any babies? There would be no poor people. No one is teaching this. What are these inner-city churches teaching? It’s certainly not to get married before you have a baby. They are also not teaching the men to take care of the babies they make. I never see any articles suggesting to get married and save money before having a baby.

I hope the Chicago Teachers Union does vote to strike. I hope Karen Lewis, the union president, gets her way and the teachers do walk off the job. There are thousands of teachers out of work today that would be more than willing to step in and work under the conditions that Chicago teachers work now. They need to look at the reality of what the economy is now and what other people are being paid.

Can we do away with this coverage of former Bolingbrook Police Sgt. Drew Peterson? Who in their right mind is interested in that garbage?

Tim from Orland Park

Illinois is welcome to come take my house from me because I’m not paying any more money in property tax to support an overbloated system. The Democrats just want to take more and more.

It should be the right of any broadcaster to say it like it is. If it’s the truth then it’s the truth. He should be able to ask why a ballplayer struck out or made an error. It seems like the owners want these broadcasters to be puppets.

If I was dining at the Ashford House Restaurant in Tinley Park and these punks came in and started beating on me I would have planted my steak knife in him. It’s time we wake up and protect ourselves. Since the police cannot protect us, we have to do it ourselves. Gov. Pat Quinn will not allow us to carry guns, so we have to find other means like chairs, tables or whatever we have to protect ourselves.

Joe from Tinley Park

Who owns the land where the Crete detention center is slated to be built? I’m sure it’s someone with political connections.

If you want to make any pension reforms or cuts, make them for new hires only. Leave the retirees alone. Give us what was promised.

I find it very insulting to state that you must be a minority to work the system and get government aid. Your nationality doesn’t determine how you function as a human being. There are manipulative people in all nationalities. Some of the biggest manipulators have gone to prison.

If the greedy politicians pass a $1 increase in cigarette tax, why don’t they also go up $1 on liquor? I don’t smoke or drink, so I don’t care. They are always in debt, they never have enough money and they always misuse it. It’s a dirty shame that these people get back into office election after election. I don’t know what is wrong with the people in Illinois.

RC from Oak Lawn

It’s nice to know a second language and be able to speak it in public. Plus, exercising your mind reduces your risk for dementia in the future.
