Our music from the 1950s and ’60s is being used for commercials. It ruins the song. It’s sad because those were such good songs.

I’m the director of the Oak Lawn Park District. Thanks for the wonderful article detailing the concerts and movies on the Oak Lawn Village Green. However, you failed to mention that the events are sponsored by the village of Oak Lawn and the Oak Lawn Park District. We are so very fortunate to have a wonderful partnership with the village. Because of this relationship, we can provide the summer joy of fireworks, movies and concerts. Thanks so much for recognizing the Oak Lawn Park District in this joint effort.

I will support same-sex marriage when two males or two females can produce a baby together. Gay couples pride themselves on becoming adoptive parents, yet if it wasn’t for a heterosexual act, the child would have never been conceived and born. The conclusion is gay people depend on us heterosexuals to support, promote and populate their ranks. But if the world were gay, we would quickly become an extinct civilization.

I was sad to see Jessica Hauss, the girl who got nearly a full-page SouthtownStar article about competing in the Miss Hooters International contest. She is a lovely girl who shouldn’t work at Hooters. I have teen daughters. I worked as a cocktail waitress at a place like Hooters years ago. I would be upset if my daughter spent her days working with minimal clothing for older men’s pleasure. This is graduation time. Many parents have children who deserve more than a full-page article. Please let our children know they will be acknowledged for things other than their physical beauty.
In the article “Bill adding oversight to pension systems about to become law,” it mentions four leaders whom Gov. Pat Quinn has been in “almost daily” conversations with and who believe in the “fundamental principal of accountability and responsibility.” Are these the same four leaders who allowed other crooked politicians to use money that we teachers put in regularly for their pet projects?
I like Tom Cruise and saw him in the “Rock of Ages” movie. He is no Mick Jagger from the Rolling Stones. I kept asking, “Why?”

Playboy cover girl Jenny McCarthy, who is dating Chicago Bears linebacker Brian Urlacher, can be the team’s new mascot. Will McCarthy help or hurt the Bears? Her track record is not so good. Maybe she can help by flashing the other team and causing a few fumbles. Maybe we will get to the playoffs this way.
The Link card cannot legally be used to buy cigarettes or liquor. As a matter of fact, it cannot even be used for the purchase of household cleaners, laundry products or paper products such as toilet paper and paper towels. The Link card can only be used for eatable items. There may be some businesses, though, that will honor any item the customer wishes to buy with his Link card, but it is being done illegally.

The U.S. Constitution gives us the right to bear arms. It bothers me that Illinois keeps us from carrying arms. It seems like criminals have more rights. I don’t understand why we in Illinois are not allowed. It’s not right. We have to make sure we are not the victims.

Go, sisters, go! Catholic nuns have launched a bus tour aimed at the budget proposal by Paul Ryan, chairman of the House Committee on the Budget. Can I get an amen?

How can someone earn a degree if they were an illegal immigrant and didn’t have a Social Security number? How did officials not know that Alaa Mukahhal was an undocumented immigrant? I am so tired of hearing about how illegal immigrants deserve rights and benefits. If you were to go to another country and try the same thing, they would be throwing you out as they were laughing at you. Let’s try to make sure the United States is taken care of first before we worry about people who are here illegally.
Could it get more aggravating? I have an older computer. I look up web pages and have to inordinately wait while advertising site after advertising site loads so I can read an article. Is it just me? Can these sites be turned off? Or is this just another manifestation of the advertising overload we are subjected to daily? It seems pretty standard to sit through six, seven, eight and beyond advertisements on the radio or television before you can hear or view what you are really interested in.
I found it disturbing how few players from Marist High School made a recent list in the SouthtownStar’s sports section. Could it be that Marist needs a new coaching staff? Or could it be that only the kids whose parents contributed big dollars to the new baseball stadium got to leave the bench? Wake up, Marist! Your baseball program is striking out.
President Obama is only asking the wealthy to pay their fair share. Of course he is. Otherwise, they wouldn’t be able to afford his $40,000-per-plate dinners.

The teachers who work for the Chicago Public Schools system deserve a raise, but not for teaching. They should get combat pay. Most teachers say the same thing that they are terrified of most of the kids they teach. Some of the teachers even need security going to and from their cars. If the teachers go on strike, the kids will be happy. Most of these kids aren’t learning anyway. They don’t really care.
