I don’t understand why WBBM-TV (Channel 2) news brought back Bill Kurtis and Walter Jacobson. They were not good when they were originally there, and now they are not any better. I just change channels.

Why do some people think simply sharing a gospel with someone is ramming it down their throat yet when they express their opinion of disbelief it’s not ramming their opinion down someone else’s throat?

Teresa from Country Club Hills

Picture this. A doctor has 30 people in his examination room at the same time. They all have different needs. Some of the people don’t want to be there and some are causing trouble. The doctor, without assistance, has to treat them with professional excellence for nine months. If the doctor got little respect from these people’s parents and was paid a disproportionately low salary compared with his education and skill level, then the doctor would have a clue what it is like to be a teacher. This is what it is like to be teacher in a Republican state.

As usual, the Rev. Michael Pfleger and the Rev. Jesse Jackson have it wrong. There are millions of people in this country who own guns and are not out shooting, robbing and committing crimes. Most people with guns do not commit crimes. So why would they protest in front of a gun shop in Riverdale? Blame the person with the gun. Don’t blame the gun. Get your story straight, Pfleger and Jackson. It is your own constituents and community who are committing the crimes with the guns. Blame the people.

It’s really sad that sometimes your education and scholarships are determined by your ZIP code.

Mike P. from Chicago

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan and Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez have refused to defend the 16-year-old law, which defines marriage as between a man and a woman. Excuse me! These two have been elected by the people. The people do not want gay marriage. There is already a legal partnership law. It’s absolutely amazing that they refuse to follow the law.

I read the article about James P. Murphy, the Oak Forest man who got 120 years for a sex attack. It was the sickest story I ever read. Where is the justice in Illinois for this family? For what this predator did, 120 years in prison is not enough. He deserves the death penalty. If this happened to a politician’s child the system would change. I’m so disgusted from this

Why aren’t companies hiring? Companies are feeling uncertain about probable taxation and regulation by this Obama administration. This accounts for their not hiring new people. Plus, there are the dismal unemployment figures for May. The Dow also reflects this lack of confidence. Unfortunately my pension plan, which depends on the Dow performing well, is looking bleak also.

Palos Heights

I loved him for the man he was, not for the man I wanted him to be. The best gift a man can give his children is to love their mother. Nothing speaks louder to your children than your good example. Kids want to be just like their parents. What an awesome responsibility.

Diana from Orland Park

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is not even close to being the president yet a Speak Out commenter is speculating on Romney starting a war. That’s absurd. On the other hand, we have President Obama who has actually escalated a war. He sent thousands of troops into Afghanistan and nothing was really mentioned of it. Why doesn’t someone speculate on Obama’s daughters fighting overseas?

I was waiting for my car after attending a benefit at 115 Bourbon Street in Merrionette Park when I saw the valet stop a few drivers from drinking and driving by offering them a cab. Thank you very much for doing that. It makes me feel safer on the street that someone would take the time to stop someone from driving after drinking at an establishment.

If you want to get rid of disability fraud, just void everyone who is on disability right now. Have them get recertified within 90 days by a family doctor. Make sure the doctors know that if they certify someone who is not really disabled, then there are stiff fines coming including the possibility of losing their licenses.

I needed the extra help from the state for my meds. Gov. Pat Quinn just cancelled Illinois Cares Rx. I’m a low-income senior, like many who depended on that program. I’ll be 80 years old in August. If I pay my home taxes, utilities and insurance, with the state’s help with my meds I was just making it. If I don’t, I’ll be on the street. If I don’t take my meds, I’ll be 6 feet under. What choice do I have? Who can answer that in Springfield?

Barbara from Calumet Park

Rome was not built in a day. People are looking for a quick fix. There are not any quick fixes. Nevertheless, if President Obama had cooperation, we would be doing better with the economy. The answer is always no from the right, so the blames go back to the president. People are not taking into consideration the polarization.

A Speak Out commenter suggested that the Chicago Cubs play in a minor league park because they have the talent of a minor league team. Maybe the Chicago White Sox should play in a minor league park so they can possibly sell out that park.

Decriminalizing marijuana and issuing tickets may save space in prisons and save police from dangerous busts, but the drug dealers are still going to make a profit from all of the young people being constantly high.
