Fireworks shows are taking place throughout the Southland. Many of these shows are free. For those who like to celebrate at home, please practice safety especially when the children are around.
More about decriminalizing marijuana: If these moron politicians would quit playing games and make marijuana totally legal, the price for pot would dramatically go down and the dealers would not have the profit margin they now have. Didn’t we learn anything from the Volstead Act, which is better known as Prohibition? It was a complete failure. Quit trying to legislate morality, and quit legislating via emotion and become states persons once again. Then these politicians could do what they do best: tax marijuana and steal the money for themselves and their cronies.

We just returned from a trip down South. Gasoline prices were $2.89 per gallon and cigarettes were only $3.99 per pack. We just want to let Illinois citizens know how bad this state really is.

Initially, the idea of an inspector general to study suburban corruption sounds like a great idea. But wait a minute. He is going to want a staff. That is going to be another 30 or 40 employees. It’s just more government. Isn’t that what the people want to get rid of?

A comment was made that we should mind our own business about people using the Link card and welfare. It is my business when you are taking money out of my pocket and wasting it. You’re choosing to sit at home and do nothing and take the money out of hardworking people’s pockets. None of us have a problem with helping somebody who has fallen on hard times, but we will only help temporarily. Why do people seem to think they can sit around and collect money every month?
Some people seems to think they are having religion crammed down their throats. I am not having religion crammed down my throat. All I see in politics is them trying to weaken religion because it teaches morals and self-responsibility. This agnostic does not see where religion is crammed down our throats.
Nobody wants to wait in line. They all want to be first. When my grandfather came to the United States, he waited in line. I don’t know what is happening to this country. Illegal immigrants are illegal.
If every user of electricity takes their business away from ComEd yet ComEd is still responsible for maintaining lines and equipment, how will ComEd have funds to maintain or replace them as needed?

If I could turn back the hands of time and had the power, I’d make the gun laws so strict that it would require an act of Congress to be able to buy a gun. Unfortunately, that horse has long left the barn, and millions of guns are in the hands of millions of people. So, if guns were regulated now, it would be ludicrous to expect such a law would do any good. Quit trying to fight feathers and put some teeth into law enforcement instead.
This may come as a shock to President Obama, but a country without an entrepreneurial class does not work. The U.S. economy will never survive in this current state.

Comparing a superintendent’s salary and benefits with a teacher’s salary and benefits is like comparing apples with oranges.
The Rev. Michael Pfleger is a priest. He knows the people who come to him with their problems. He also holds confessions. He knows the people in the area who are causing the trouble. Instead of marching in front of a gun shop in Riverdale, why doesn’t he get in touch with these people? I’m sure he knows who they are. I’m sure people in his church know who they are. He hasn’t looked any farther than his front door.
U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. must have exhausted himself shovelling all of that dirt for the Peotone airport. Maybe he’s exhausted by shovelling something else to the people. One thing is for sure. He has done a lot of shovelling.
A commenter asked what Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney stands for. He stands for the real hope and change we were promised and never received.
Jim from Chicago Heights
With a lack of financial transparency, the alleged misuse of taxpayers’ money, the history of alleged financial deception, an overwhelming burden of debt and the latest federal indictment of former Country Club Hills employees Ronald and Regina Evans, it seems the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. It would appear that the only way to salvage the community from further financial erosion and community embarrassment would be for the residents of Country Club Hills to band together and demand an immediate recall election. We need a political lobotomy.
People care more about themselves than their progeny. They want to get from the government what they can, but all the while they are bankrupting their children’s and grandchildren’s futures. People have begun to think the government owes them many things they used to provide for themselves. They don’t stop to think that when they use the government they are using taxpayers’ dollars, putting the United States in debt and creating a bankrupt future for generations to come.

The Republicans seem to keep talking about how businesses are struggling. They don’t seem to be talking about actual people. It makes you wonder where their loyalties really lie.
