I saw the Chicago Cubs finally called up legendary baseball player Babe Ruth from the minors. Oh sorry, I meant rookie Anthony Rizzo.

Regarding Baumann’s Bakery: Your kind article about the Palos Heights business closing neglected to mention how greatly appreciated the donations of baked goods were to the elderly and homebound of St. Christina Catholic Parish and Chicago’s Mount Greenwood community. You will be sorely missed. God bless you for your goodness.

After receiving our tax bills, I wonder how many more “for sale” signs will go up and how many more people will wish they could sell. Is it only in Illinois that property tax bill increases could exceed property value declines?

Most conservative middle-aged people with a lot of common sense and experience will probably vote for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. We’ll do that because we want to create a safe and stable working environment so others can go out and find a decent job and be productive members of society in order to support themselves.

It seems that some of these girls don’t have any self-respect for themselves these days. They get pregnant by these deadbeat guys who never change. These girls expect their parents to clean up their messes or they live off the Link card. Break the cycle already. What ever happened to morals? I guess that is a thing of the past.

I’m so glad my children are not in the Chicago Public Schools system anymore. These teachers seem to be only interested in money. They are not dedicated teachers anymore. They are just moneymakers. A strike is only going to hurt the children.

Years ago you never saw fire trucks following ambulances. Years ago you also never saw so many 300-pound-plus people. How do you get such an injured person out of a bathtub, onto a backboard, through a narrow doorway and down a narrow stairway to an ambulance. It’s called: Saw the doorway wider, tie a rope to the backboard, four people slide that backboard down the stairs, four people lift it into the ambulance, and four public servants do their job uninjured.

So our taxes will go up. The Supreme Court stated that Obamacare is constitutional only as a tax. Who were those people who stated our taxes would not go up because of Obamacare?

My family just returned from a driving vacation. Other states’ roads are so clean. There is no trash or cigarette butts littering the roads. Illinois roads are garbage dumps. Come on, people! Put a plastic grocery bag in your car for garbage, and use your ashtray for your butts. Let’s keep our roads clean and something to be proud of.

David Heller, who was U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.’s media consultant for his March primary win, says his constituents support him. On what planet? Personally, I think JJJ’s a crook. I do not know where he is, but I’m willing to bet it’s not where he belongs — not yet, anyway.

It’s time for Val Warner to get bounced off TV talk show “Windy City Live.” She tries to be the star of the show when obviously she is not. Cheryl Burton from WLS-TV (Channel 7) would have been a better choice.

My car battery went dead. To get the radio back, the dealership must reprogram it. They will not give the code out.

The United States doesn’t need an entrepreneurial class to make it work. What it needs are workers who are paid enough that they can afford things beyond basic needs. That will get the economy moving. Businesses don’t hire more workers until demand for products or services increases. Henry Ford understood that his idea of the assembly line meant nothing unless people were able to buy his cars. He raised the pay of his workers, which cost money in the short term. But he created buyers for his products. Businesses need to remember they have to spend money to make money.

Regarding a loving god having a plan including tire blowouts on the expressway: Your god should spend their time more wisely. While thousands of children die every minute from starvation, your god is playing matchmaker on a busy interstate? If you cannot explain your god’s actions or mind, you have no credibility in assigning any human attribute like goodness or kindness to him. Admit your knowledge of your god’s mind is degrees less than what sheep can perceive of the mind of the rancher who provides for him before slaughter. At least sheep have visual confirmation of the rancher’s existence.

To Barbara from Calumet Park: If you are a low-income senior and can prove it, many of the drug companies have a program where they will assist you by either sending the medicine to your doctor at no charge or for a minimal charge. You have to contact each drug manufacturer and explain your situation. Good luck.

I agree with the Speak Out commenter who complained about Bill Kurtis and Walter Jacobson on WBBM-TV (Channel 2). They’ve had their share of fame. Why not hang up their jockstraps? Why not mentor an up-and-coming journalist? Meanwhile, when they appear, I change the channel.
