Does anyone know how to get rid of cicada killers? They have invaded my back yard and I am scared of them. They are by my back door and I can’t get in my house.

The reason the Chicago Police Department did not commit their usual acts of violence during the NATO Summit was because they knew there were cameras everywhere. Otherwise, I believe it would have been business as usual.

I liked the Speak Out comment about how straight people do not have special laws just for them. Straight people make up an estimated 90 percent of the population, and nearly everything in this world is created by and made for them. It is ridiculous and shameful that gay people have to fight tooth and nail in this day and age to receive any basic social right or privilege when they should have had such luxuries all along. Most of these social rights and privileges rest on general human decency, but the truth is simple. Straight people often lack decency.

What ever happened to the humanitarian work celebrity Paris Hilton promised to do after her release from prison?

The Democrats want to bring up charges against Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney because of Bain Capital. They should also bring up charges against Barack Obama for impersonating a president.

A Speak Out commenter stated that Gov. Pat Quinn was high-fiving himself for passing legislation about shark fins while we have rising taxes. These are two separate and important issues. Killing hundreds of thousands of sharks per year just for their fins is cruel. The perpetrators cut off the sharks’ fins and often throw the sharks back into the ocean alive. Paying high taxes for incompetent legislatures is our mistake for electing them.

To the Tinley Park commenter who is moving to Indiana due to our high tax increase: I have lived in Tinley for 20 years. My mortgage is paid for, but my property taxes are more a month than my mortgage was. With the foreclosures and high taxes, I can see why people cannot afford to pay their mortgages. Also, you cannot sell because the property value has dropped to less than what you owed. It’s sad. Property value goes down and taxes go up. I see more vacant, foreclosed homes and closed businesses here. We are looking at out-of-state property.

Regarding a recent comment from an obvious Link cardholder: Does this person defend using a Link card to buy a shopping cart full of pop, 12 gallons of milk, four large turkeys, or a beef tenderloin at $20 a pound? Then when it comes time to pay, the person takes three Link cards out of their wallet and chooses what Link card to use. We see it every day. The fraudulent use of this card runs into tens of millions of dollars in the Midwest alone. Doesn’t anybody really care? I am able to tell a different factual story daily.

An atheist is a man who believes himself an accident.

Seriously? Someone is worried about how the massacre in Colorado will tarnish Batman’s name and history? How about having a little bit more respect for the people who were killed or injured in this shooting. Batman isn’t a real person. He is just a movie character.

Regarding this summer: One very positive thing that can be said about this sizzling, rain-less summer is no mosquitoes. My husband and I have enjoyed sitting on our patio without the annoying, pesky insects.

Watch your plate tags. Someone has been strategically trying to remove mine.

Come on! Stop blaming the Democrats for all the Illinois financial problems. These problems were created over many years. Both parties are to blame. We need to start seeing some accountability with our politicians. Let’s take away or reduce their pensions and health care like they are proposing to do for so many.

My pet peeves are people chewing gum in church or talking on their phones in public. Other pet peeves include men not taking off their baseball caps in buildings and not taking their caps off for the national anthem especially at sporting events. The United States is losing its civility.

I know it is a bit un-American, but I sort of hope the Olympic men’s basketball team gets beaten. “Why?” you say. Well, first of all, professionals shouldn’t even be participating in the Olympics. Secondly, is there any limit to the perks these guys get. Finally, they are arrogant and poor examples of sportsmanship. If they get beaten, they had it coming. They are not better than the 1992 team of professionals.

About having summer forever: Sure it’s hot. That’s what summer is all about. I will gladly take this over 10-below-zero degrees with a foot of snow on the ground and having to get up early in order to shovel my driveway and sidewalks in order to get to work or run everyday errands, not to mention scraping the ice off of my car windows and hoping that I don’t spin out on undetectable black ice. Appreciate what you have while you have it.

What’s with all the super high heels on the ladies? These heels make 90 percent of the wearers look grotesque.
