What an honor it will be for Homewood to have the most number of murals by award-winning artist Richard Haas. It’s great to see more art being brought to an already wonderful village.

More about church: A friend and I witnessed a woman load dozens of large unopened bags of donated snacks from the fellowship hall into her car’s trunk. The bags were left over from an event and she offered to take them to the teachers lounge. One would overlook it if she was needy, but she is exactly as described — constantly bragging, taking unearned credit and judging others. To the person who goes to pray, not judge: Put money in the basket or don’t. Then tell the offertory police to mind their own business and go home to their glass houses.

The Republican National Convention was a lot of hot air with no substance.

I’m surprised the SouthtownStar would put a picture of celebrity Jenny McCarthy on the Speak Out page and then put such a hurtful comment from a Speak Out commenter under her picture. Her family lives in Chicago. Why wouldn’t she want to move back here? She’s also lucky to have Chicago Bear Brian Urlacher as a friend.

Chicago

To Tom from Worth: You are missing the point. Us “whiners” are concerned because middle-class wages have remained stagnant over the last 30 years, while chief executive officer wages have soared, increasing over 700 percent. Our economy is suffering because the middle class does not have money to spend. The middle class are the true job creators. Corporations will not hire without demand for product. The greed at the top is slowly killing the middle class. But if you feel all this greed is fair to the middle class, I guess that is your opinion.

Recently I was saddened to realize it was the first time that my dear friend Vern wasn’t around to celebrate her birthday. Despite the health problems she encountered through the years, she always brought sunshine into my life. I miss her every day, but I’m so glad I had a chance to really get to know her and laugh with her. Whenever I’m sad about her being gone, I remember how much joy she brought into my life. Thanks, sister.

Chicago is making news all over America with our citizens being shot and wounded in gang violence. This is no way to make the news.

Drew Peterson may be found not guilty of the murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, due to lack of evidence, but his lawyer team will now and forever be remembered as looking like and acting like clowns.

Ken from Crete

A lot of Speak Out commenters complain about their tax dollars being used for illegitimate children, Link cards and other things. Take a look at what you pay in taxes. You are not doing as much as you think you are. When illegitimate children and poor people get jobs, they also pay taxes. You need to get off your high horse and stop thinking your taxes account for so much. Your taxes are just a drop in the bucket.

Come on! Leave Prince Harry alone. He was just having fun in Las Vegas. It’s not a big deal.

Is anyone else as annoyed as I am about the graphics that seem to pop up all over TV programs these days? I try to watch some of my favorite shows and have to deal with promotions for upcoming programs in the corner or along the bottom of the screen. Sure, whatever pops up catches my attention, but it also takes away from the very thing I was trying to watch. What a bummer!

For the sake of political correctness, the race of an individual is left out of every description of a suspect of a crime. How are you supposed to look for a suspect if you don’t know the complete description of that person?

The reason for empty seats at baseball games is simple. Baseball teams and owners have priced their fans into submission. Fans have all they can do to put food on their tables and pay their bills. We fans are being charged to death. We can’t afford the ridiculous prices at the ballpark. Give the working fans a decent entry fee.

I think people want to see Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s tax returns because those people have never seen a tax return. I believe that most of the people who vote for President Obama don’t pay taxes so they want to see what a tax return looks like.

A gasoline station in Crestwood had prices that went up from $3.15 per gallon to $3.45 a gallon overnight. Come on now! Who’s kidding who here?

I believe that Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan is the major problem regarding schoolteachers’ pensions. It’s not our fault the state is broke. It’s Madigan’s fault. Madigan has been giving millions away for stupid pet projects for all of his cronies for as long as he’s been speaker. We still have a chance to get rid of Madigan in November.

News flash to Chicago Ald. Joe Moreno, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and other liberals who seem to have forgotten that we have the freedom of speech and the freedom of our own minds in this country: This is America. We are allowed to think what we want. Chick-fil-A president and chief operating officer Dan Cathy has the right to not believe in gay marriage. Liberal minds seem to think it’s their way or the highway.
