The Southland is so lucky to have so many dining options and especially in Orland Park. Who’s as excited as I am that Dave & Busters will be opening there soon?
Why do the Democrats want Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney to spell out all of his ideas? Is it to give them some ideas? The Democrats haven’t passed a budget in years. They are worried about Romney’s taxes. What about all of the rich Democrats? They seem to be picking on a man who has earned a living on the up and up. All they know how to do is dig up dirt.

How many more people have to be shot, stabbed or killed before we realize that Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy does not know what he is doing? Pick somebody from Chicago to be Chicago’s police chief.

I was amazed to find out that the same U.S. Rep. Todd Akin who made those ridiculous remarks about whether a woman would get pregnant as a result of “legitimate rape” is on the U.S. House Committee on Science, Space and Technology. How could he possibly get on a science committee when the guy obviously cut all of his science classes?
We used to have President Reagan, singer Johnny Cash and comedian Bob Hope. Now we have President Obama, which means we have no cash and no hope.
I see that former Cook County Board President Todd Stroger’s right-hand man Eugene Mullins, the previous director of the Cook County Department of Public Affairs and Communications, was arrested and charged with stealing and corruption. So not only did Stroger’s administration run up a huge deficit and waste taxpayers’ money, but now they are being charged with stealing money. The sad thing is if they were to run again for office, they would probably get 90 percent of the vote. I bet you the Democrats would vote them right back in.
Why can’t home-improvement stores buy American like Menards? I can understand if the other stores’ prices were lower, but they are not. I feel good when I buy from Menards. I have the feeling that I am helping someone keep their job over here.
In response to the Speak Out comment about not blaming the hammer when a porch collapses: Hammers fix things, which is good. Guitars play music, which is good. Cars bring you places, which is good. Guns shoot and kill things. That is not good. People don’t buy hammers, guitars or cars to harm anything. People buy guns to shoot and kill.

Those who don’t understand how evolution can produce complexity speaks volumes. That means you don’t understand geologic time, intermediate species or the processes nature uses to produce such organisms. Have you even heard of natural selection? In the age of information, ignorance is a choice.
The politicians who control Illinois, Cook County and Chicago would not allow a real investigation of thievery in the Link card system for one reason. They don’t want to offend a good portion of their voting block.
Interest rates are lowered to try to stimulate the economy. Granted, it doesn’t work for everybody. If you have a good cash flow, it’s a great time to make major purchases such as cars and houses. It’s also a great time to take out home-equity loans to make major repairs on your home or to have as mad money. I’ve written before that anyone who keeps large amounts of cash in a bank has a fool for a financial adviser. I might have $5,000 or $10,000 in the bank for emergencies, but all my major money is in various markets.

What is it with all these atheist comments lately? We get it already. You believe in a whole lot of nothing.

A Speak Out contributor wrote about an annoyance with the on-screen promos, or “bugs,” that some cable networks run while a program is airing. I share that frustration. Channels that use bugs show that they have no respect for the material they are airing and no respect for their viewers. I have emailed several channels to let them know how much I despise this practice. They need to hear from more people.

Once again, as was done at the New York Giants vs. Dallas Cowboys NFL 2012 season opener on Wednesday, we were forced to listen to a Broadway production of “The Star-Spangled Banner” along with video clips of the players wandering around rather than standing still with their hands over their hearts. Can anyone sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” as it was intended to be sung?

I am so tired of people claiming that so many people abuse the welfare system. How do you know what is going on in other people’s lives? You don’t, so you are not in a position to say who and who does not deserve welfare. I have never been on welfare, but I believe in programs that help the less fortunate. However, I am angry that Wall Street abused our system and ran our economy into the ground yet walked away very wealthy. Why aren’t you complaining about that?
Repulsive? Wow! Really? A guy with his shorts hanging half down his butt is preventable. Shame on us to judge the heavyset woman happy in her clothes or men who’ve lived a good life and it shows. Really, is it our job to judge? I think we should leave that at the pearly gates.
