Bravo to Frankie Caporale and the early risers at Calumet Park Beach for recently getting together to watch the sunrise and commemorate both Labor Day and 9/11.
I had fantastic service at the McDonald’s in Crestwood. I’m not even done paying for my order and my food is up already. Nice work, crew.
Regarding buy one, get one free: Has anyone researched to see if the price of the “buy” product of a buy-one-get-one promotion is usually increased over the regular non-promo everyday shelf price?

I don’t like the corporate Chicago radio stations that ignore certain rock bands, but I found a great noncommercial show called “The Jungle” on Monday nights starting at 9 p.m. on WXAV-FM (88.3). I think it’s college radio, but it sounds professional, as the kid who hosts plays good hard rock. He interviewed Warrant and Great White when I listened. You don’t get that on the Loop or the Drive. If you enjoy good-time rock as an escape from all the bad news these days, tune in as The Jungle” is a diamond in the radio rough.

I noticed that a recent edition of the SouthtownStar contained eight pages of sports and 18 pages of foreclosure listings. Things are getting better? I think not.

So U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. has bipolar disorder. Really? He is depressed? I had to laugh out loud. For a person with his clout, benefits and income, you would think bipolar would be the last thing you’d hear from such a lucky man. Bipolar is characterized as chronic mood swings. Everyone in the world suffers from that. What’s he looking for? Sympathy? A reason not to work? No one will really know Jesse’s true ailment. I will consider him using the excuse that seems to fit best. Get real, Jesse! Call it what it is. Bipolar? I doubt it.

Are you better off than you were four years ago? The unions, illegal immigrants, gay people, murderers and the compulsive nonworking Link card holders are better off. But the average middle-class person is not better off. Whether we are Democrats of Republicans, we are not better off under President Obama.
The American public and I need help understanding how cyclist Lance Armstrong can be stripped of his seven Tour de France titles. Why is there no outrage from the American public? Can this happen later to others like the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus, from tennis or anyone else who has won international titles? How can one pass the anti-doping tests only to be stripped later of your titles? Something is very fishy here.

Cook County is the cause of all the problems in Illinois. If Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel gives in to these teachers, then he is goofy. He should tell them to take his last offer, or they are through and he can replace them.
I’m not jealous of celebrity Jenny McCarthy. I don’t hate her, and I’m definitely not ashamed of myself for not wanting her back here. Your paranoid feelings are wrong. I couldn’t care less. I only think of her as a desperate person who will do anything to get fame and fortune. I think she is someone with no talent and no class, and who has had only moderate success. She needs money and can’t find a boyfriend to support her in Los Angeles, so she’s moving back to her hometown.
I have to respond to the person commenting about renewing license plates. Here in Illinois we get stickers and when sending in for the sticker there is a place where it is mandatory to put your insurance company, the policy number and the expiration of the insurance. From what I remember, there is no place on the form that refers to emissions control. It makes me wonder what state you live in.
There are millions of people out of work in the United States because of the economy. Where are all those people who need a job? Why don’t they run to Chicago? Some of these people must have a credential in order to be a teacher. Or did the Chicago Public Schools system and Chicago Teachers Union conspire to make it virtually impossible to teach in Chicago without a crony’s help?
The Republicans and the Tea Party don’t want to share. They want the whole pie for themselves. They will leave the crumbs for the rest of us. The Democrats want everyone to have a piece of the pie.

No one doubts natural selection, the idea that species adapt to environments to become new species. What’s disputed is one kind of animal becoming a new kind, like a monkey becoming a man. And those who question it are not at all ignorant. Many are, in fact, well-educated scientists. And even if the evidence does support it, blind chance making it is still highly illogical. Logic still says that when something exists it’s because it was created. People should not be so afraid of that idea, whichever origin view they accept.
The teachers and the union could care less about the kids of the city of Chicago. All they care about is the money. If they cared about the kids they would be teaching. I think they should all be fired and start over. No company gives you a second chance when you screw up. Get back to work.

The current rise in gasoline prices was due to the excessive release of gas at the Democratic National Convention.
