A British farming organization predicted a worldwide shortage of bacon and pork in 2013. But others now say that a shortage is not on the way. (The Canadian Press, Jonathan Hayward)

It turns out that the bacon shortage was a bunch of hogwash. However, the price may still go up. This is not surprising.
I am so glad I have caller ID. I don’t answer any robocalls, for that matter. I only answer my phone if I know the person calling. If I don’t know them and they want to speak to me, they can leave me a message on my answering machine. If they don’t leave a message, the call wasn’t important.
I think the Obamas like the idea of living the celebrity lifestyle. Michelle Obama recently was here in Chicago to be on the “Steve Harvey” TV show. I wonder who is paying for the security, the plane and everything that surrounds her. I know she is just using all of this to support and raise funding for her husband, President Obama.
I am Jared Gordon from Signs by Design in Palos Hills and I am replying to the Speak Out about a “Proud American Home” yard sign. We can make that sign, any size and quantity.
Why blame teachers for all of the young men in prison? A Speak Out commenter stated that these young men have no direction, no inspiration and no focus. I thought it was the parent’s job to build character and it was the teacher’s job to educate. Put the blame where it belongs. Thank you, parents, or lack of them.
The Chicago Cubs’ owners must have spaghetti for brains. They gave president of baseball operations Theo Epstein a five-year contract to make the Cubs contenders. World War II didn’t take five years. The Cubs lost 101 games this season. How can Epstein justify 101 losses? This man must be the Wizard of Oz. The Cubs’ owners must get real. Epstein is just another recipe for disaster. Wake up, owners!
It seems like every time the gasoline prices start to fall, something happens — like a refinery in California or Texas catches fire — to cause a shortage. It sounds suspicious to me.
I saw a bumper sticker that read, “I am the 47 percent.” What is it that this person is so proud of? Is it that they feel like they are a victim? Is it that they don’t pay taxes? It’s not a bumper sticker that I would put on my car because all you are doing is proudly proclaiming that you are a freeloader. If he is part of the 47 percent, that’s nothing to be proud of.
To the person who commented that if you are pro-life, then you are pro-death: Are you against abortions even if the life of the mother is at risk? If you let the mother die, isn’t that pro-death? If your family member was raped, would you be against an abortion? Are you in support of universal health care and feeding the poor? If not, can you really call yourself pro-life? Do you support wars and the death penalty? If you do, you’re pro-death, too.
Wouldn’t it be a wonderful thing if all individuals could make all of their bank fees tax-deductible?

I don’t agree with the teachers’ strike in Evergreen Park. I think this is a bad time. The economy is bad. Now the teachers want a raise. They don’t worry about the senior citizens’ property taxes going up. We are the people who pay for their raises. I hope they enjoy it.
How many Catholics in the United States would be uprising, burning flags and killing people from embassies around the world if another country made a video about Jesus Christ being a homosexual, for instance? I don’t think that would happen. People would just say that the guy was a nutcase with a stupid video.
Joy Behar from “The View” TV show turned 70 years old. Her cohort Barbara Walters is 83 years old. This disproves the proverb that you are older and wiser.
Was it a requirement to show if you have a Link card before entering the Apple store? Was Apple denying sales of the iPhone5 to people who have a Link card? A Link card user can have cash and savings, you know. The Link card is to subsidize food spending. People can spend their cash on whatever they want — be it a fancy purse, a luxury car or an iPhone 5.
Every election should indicate “the person currently in office.” “They” would certainly be voted out. Why don’t ballots carry this information? How can we get this information on the ballot?
I couldn’t believe the prayer pose that former Rich South High School employee Bryan Craig had in the SouthtownStar. It made me shake my head. It seems that the therapy he really needs to address is his preoccupation with salaciousness. He has the part-time stripper club job. Then there is his sex-toned book, which he is stepping away from, claiming he’s an expert but saying he based it on hearsay from friends. I would recommend him getting further education in the mental health field. I wonder how deep people can get into the forest before they can’t see the trees.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s religious beliefs seem very strict. I wonder how they feel about him flat out lying when it comes to politics?
If Will County was able to convict former Bolingbrook police sergeant Drew Peterson of first-degree murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio, with sketchy hearsay evidence, then why not Tony Marquez for Robin Abrams’ disappearance and likely murder. Her family seems to know a lot about their volatile relationship.
