If a tree falls in the woods and nobody is there to hear it, does it make a sound? If two football fields of marijuana are burned and no pot smokers are around, did it really exist? Whoa, man!
Thank you, Joe Stalcup, for your thoughtful and warm blessing of the animals at St. Stephen Deacon & Martyr in Tinley Park Oct. 6 in honor of St. Francis of Assisi day. Thank you also to the staff of St. Stephen who assisted with the blessing. Deacon Joe, you are a treasured and valued friend at People’s Animal Welfare Society, and your compassion for all animals — whether homeless or already loved — is evident in your words and actions.
The TV show “Dancing with the Stars” has become a joke. If anyone truly believes Bristol Palin or Kirstie Alley are better dancers then Helio Castroneves or Drew Lachey, then they are totally blind.

Sometimes teachers spend more time with the children than the parents do. It’s the teacher’s job to direct, guide and give focus to students.

Of course Link card users can buy what they want. Just thank the working people the government steals the money from.
If someone was truly interested in elections, they should already know who is in office and why they are voting. Just to simply vote against anyone who is currently in office is both stupid and guilty of being uninformed. As citizens, it is our obligation to prepare ourselves before voting, and to know who we are voting for and why we are voting for or against a particular candidate. Poor legislators certainly do need to be voted out of office. But despite some news sources and the Tea Party people, not all officeholders are even close to being bad.

I thought people didn’t like to be labeled. I thought people didn’t like to be segregated by things such as race, gender or other things. But people are segregating themselves. The politicians and pundits are doing it to us and we are allowing it. Nowadays people are segregated by percentages. People are no longer black or white, men or women. People are now the 1 percent, the 47 percent, the 51 percent or some other ridiculous boxed-in percentage group. I’ve been labeled many things in my life but I refuse to refer to myself as a number. I’m an American.
Legal gun owners do not bother anybody. The only reason Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle wants to raise taxes is because she is trying to replace all that money that her board members likely stole.
Some people seem to think it’s better to allow a thousand fraudulent votes than to ask a real registered voter to prove they are legal to do so. Is it really so hard to show identification that it’s considered suppression to ask for one? Many registered voters never even bother to vote. It seems like fraudulent voters always remember to cast their votes.
It’s great that Incarnation School in Palos Heights is teaching tae kwon do, through the Core Matters program, to students so they can stand up to a bully. My question is: How can they stand up to that bully when they are in your school and taking the same class you are? It doesn’t help if the bully knows as much as you.
Until the people who support “right to life” have adopted a hard-to-place child, they really ought to stop talking about it.
I think New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann acts nothing like a Republican. We do not accept him. He is a big government, left-wing, soak-the-taxpayer Democrat. Republicans are for small government, keeping your own money in your pocket and self-reliance. We do not claim Baldermann. He is out there on his own. I don’t know what he claims to be, but he is not a Republican.
In this day and age with the economy the way it is, the last thing we should be reading about day after day is how this group or that group is going on strike. People need to stop and think that this is the time to be thankful for the job you have. If you don’t like it and it is that bad, then fire everyone on strike and hire people on the unemployment line. Maybe then we can get a true unemployment reading.
I do not consider it news to have Bryan Craig — this fired, so-called guidance counselor from Rich South High School — given an entire page of free publicity in order to perpetuate his bogus lawsuit again Rich Township High School District 227. Do you really believe this is news?
I saw an ad reminding foreigners to get out and vote. It was printed in three different languages. This is what the greatest country in the world has come to? People who can’t even speak America’s language are allowed to vote? Either they haven’t been here long enough to learn our language or they don’t even respect our country enough to learn our language. Is this why we can’t ask for photo identification at elections? God forbid we try to prevent foreigners who are not even citizens from voting in our elections! Are we really this stupid?
Senior citizens now need to pipe down when it comes to talking about Social Security. They are going to get theirs. Every politician has made it quite clear that Social Security is just fine paying out right now. Some estimates show funds running out by 2033. That means anyone younger than age 45 is paying into a system that will run out of money by the time they retire. Thanks a lot, parents. You ruined it for your kids.
