I bet you do three things every week that help make Exxon rich: speed, use plastic bags from a retail outlet and idle at a drive-through. Exxon is laughing all the way to the bank.
The TV show “Dancing with the Stars” has become a popularity contest, not a dancing contest. I think every fan should boycott the program until they fix the judging system so that good dancers stay and bad ones go. If enough of us stopped watching and their ratings fell, maybe something would be done. I, for one, will not be watching.

I’m the person who made the comment that nature has made it that heterosexuality is normal. What I should have said was that evolution has made being straight the norm. I am an agnostic, not religious. When we evolved from one-celled animals, again it was evolution that decided it would take a male and female for the human species, among others, to reproduce. Hence, it is heterosexuality that is normal.
I heard that Michael Einhorn is running for an eighth term as village president in Crete. You know Einhorn. He was the guy who entered into secretive negotiations to build an immigration detention center that was defeated by a grassroots group. I wonder if anyone else in Crete is going to step up and challenge him.

The “party of the people,” the Democrats, want to raise taxes on the working-class people who want to buy a weapon or ammunition in Cook County. We have had water rates increased by Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. We have had taxes increased by Gov. Pat Quinn. Now Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle will tax the law-abiding citizen, not the criminal who uses the gun illegally.
Does anyone actually believe President Obama didn’t have time to gather his thoughts before the first presidential candidate debate because he arrived in Denver only hours before starting time? He is in charge of his schedule. He managed to get to his parties and TV appearances on time while appearing alert, prepared and witty. Of course his staff probably sets the questions in place long before he goes on stage so he has had plenty of time to practice and the audiences are handpicked.
Just in case quarterback Jay Cutler and the Chicago Bears have forgotten, there is such a thing as a quick, short slant pass that is usually good for 6 to 10 yards.

I’m an independent American woman who has been married for 33 years. Am I supposed to respect the religion of Islam that puts limits on people simply because they are women? Am I supposed to respect the Muslim culture that accepts children being married off to men old enough to be their fathers and grandfathers? We call that pedophilia here in America, and it is illegal. Am I supposed to respect a culture that limits a woman’s education or limits a woman’s movement outside? Am I supposed to say that this is OK?
The Illinois House of Representatives is considering legislation that will impose a new tax on your TV bill. It is called House Bill 5440. Call your representative now. Call your satellite TV providers and get in touch with your district representative. OK, seniors, don’t sit down on this one. It only takes a phone call.
Marching, singing and having prayer meetings just isn’t working when it comes to gangbangers killing innocent people. Sending them to jail also isn’t working. Illinois has a lot of farm land. Let them sweat it out with labor. Instead of using a tractor, let them dig.

Can’t we be happy hearing about good news? The unemployment rate for September was 7.8 percent yet there have been negative comments stating that the books have been cooked to favor President Obama. This type of conspiracy talk is unpatriotic.
I don’t think the 90 extra minutes in the school day will be used for academics. The students are getting longer lunches and longer recesses. Wouldn’t adding 10 minutes to each class be better to actually help the students academically rather than giving them more idle time to get into trouble?
A lot of antiunion people are commenting in Speak Out. There are nearly 15 million union members in the United States, a country with more than 314 million people. If the nearly 15 million are ruining the country, then what are the other 299 million or so doing to America?
Who has the new ideas for the economy? Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney brought out new faces and ideas like New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio from Florida and U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan at the Republican National Convention. President Obama brought out Vice President Joe Biden and former Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter, just to name a few, at the Democratic National Convention. Who has the new ideas?
Everyone should be more careful and alert in the Oak Lawn trailer park. Someone attempted to enter my home while I was home. I heard my doorknob rattling. The man said he was trying to look for someone who had a truck to sell. In another instance a man walked into a trailer where the husband was taking a nap on the sofa and the lady was in the back watching television. Somebody walked into their home and went through their medicine chest.
