What has U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh done for his country? He has a lot of nerve to criticize Tammy Duckworth, a woman who gave her legs and gave her all for her country. He ought to be ashamed of himself.
If anybody needs a friend, please go to your nearest animal shelter. There are plenty of dogs that would appreciate a new owner.

I don’t have a hard time at all saying I’m “proabortion.” It’s my body, my choice and I will do whatever I want with it. It’s none of your business what any woman decides to do in her life. Butt out and take care of your own problems. Don’t presume to know what’s best for someone you don’t even know.

Young people do not go into teaching for the money, but that doesn’t mean they should put up with the low pay for the hours they put into their jobs (and the immense importance their job has for society). If that were the case, nobody would ever strike to improve their lot in life. Why do some people think teachers should put up with low pay? By the way, if you are reading this, thank your teachers.
Give up already. TV evangelist Pat Robertson is way overdue to retire. From what I’ve seen, the man has a hard time concentrating and stringing words together in order to make a sensible sentence. It’s time to let go.
To Bob from Oak Forest: What possessed you to ask the question about if the Chicago Bears have forgotten about a short, quick slant pass? Have you been watching? In this day and age, you have nothing else to gripe about but that? I remember in a recent game at least one or two slants completed to wide receiver Brandon Marshall, and the touchdown where wide receiver Alshon Jeffrey hurt his hand was also a slant pass. Pay attention.

I read that Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan has bestowed a grant. I don’t know where she would be getting the money to do so. Nearly $650,000 to the Legal Aid Society will be used to hire an attorney and a paralegal to counsel people on foreclosures and for workshops. The only people I see who are helping are the lawyer and the paralegal. Again, more nonsense with grants. These grants should be stopped. There is not enough oversight on how the money is spent. Most of the time the money is misspent, wasted, misused or stolen.
I’ve noticed the criticism of God, Christians and everything they believe in. They are ridiculed constantly in Speak Out. I wonder if the SouthtownStar ever receives any comments about any other religion. Is there no other religion that anyone around is unhappy with? I know there has to be many complaints about other religions. To me, though, all there seems to be are comments ridiculing Christians.
What ever happened to the National Do Not Call Registry? My number has been on the do-not-call list since day one yet I still get calls from every new electric company out there and calls saying I’ve won trips. The calls start from 9 a.m. and continue to 9 p.m.
I would like to thank the Chicago White Sox for a wonderful season. I especially enjoyed the last two weeks of that season. I am a Chicago Cubs fan from Oak Lawn.
Tinley Park has been a train town since there were horse and buggies in this town. It’s a shame that people who bought too close to the railroad tracks now can’t take the whistles. It will be a shame when Tinley Park can no longer hear train whistles in their town.
I believe the shortage in Social Security is due to the fact that the government “borrowed” from Social Security to the tune of $2.5 trillion. It has nothing to do with the parents.

Try this for a change: Less government, more liberty and more ability to do business. This worked tremendously under former President Ronald Reagan. And I think he inherited a far-worse situation and had much bigger problems than the chosen one aka President Obama.
If Barbara Byrd-Bennett was so great for the job of Chicago Public Schools chief executive officer, then why didn’t they hire her in the first place? Why did they hire Jean-Claude Brizard? Now it’s costing the schools more money because you have to pay his salary due to his resignation agreement and hers as she takes over the job. What was the problem?
The day Don Fehr became head of the National Hockey League Players Association I knew this money-hungry egomaniac would take the hockey players off the ice. I think that all Fehr cares about is his own egomaniacal trip for his own misery. Every hockey player makes a fantastic salary. It seems like they have no loyalty for the fans. If they did, they would be playing right now. I believe Fehr cares less for the fans or management. Fehr has to go.
A Speak Out commenter stated that we should already know who is in office and why we are voting. Many people don’t even know who Joe Biden is. Many young people don’t even know he is the vice president. Many people don’t even know what he has done in the past four years. It’s really sad.
Basketball player Dwyane Wade has teamed up with Li-Ning, a Chinese shoe brand. Talk about sending jobs overseas.
