God wrote a book, the Bible. Shouldn’t we use our minds to understand what God is trying to tell us in that book?

Oak Lawn

For all the parents whose children have been bullied at school, would you believe this? Up until now it has not been mandated that local police departments share criminal activity of any nature with the schools these children attend. I know because my child has become the victim of a vicious beating and the school had no knowledge. It’s comforting to think our kids are well-protected while in school and the administrators have absolutely no knowledge of their criminal records.

This is in response to criticizing the Link card patrol. Yes, it’s not really our business what you buy, drive or wear, but there are a lot of people who know how to work the system and some who don’t. People who know how to work the system have extra money to buy nice things that people who don’t know how to work the system can’t buy. I guess some people are jealous. I mean the taxpayers.

I would like to thank the Chicago Cubs on another pathetic losing season. I am a Chicago White Sox fan from the North Side.

To union haters: Unions not corporations fought for five-day work weeks, eight-hour work days, weekends, holidays, sick and vacation days and bereavement leave that you take for granted. Go back 100 years and you will find that was not the case until unions fought for those rights. Your Mitt Romney-Paul Ryan vote for president and vice president will reverse them in a second and all states will become right-to-work states (an oxymoron, for certain). Wake up! Do not be blind because of religious or profiling beliefs. Middle class life will be no more. Think, or maybe you are Fox lemmings?

I’ve been on the National Do Not Call Registry for years. I still get daily calls from these calling bots saying I won vacations.

When asked if she would run for Illinois governor, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle answered, “No.” Who would want her to be governor anyway? Who asked this question? Is this even a question? Who in their right mind thinks Preckwinkle would do a better job than Gov. Pat Quinn. Who thinks any of these Democrats are running this state or county properly?

According to Northern Illinois University’s Illinois Interactive Report Card, the average teacher salary is $71,236 in the Chicago Public School district. Maybe they ought to look into private industry and see how much they’re really worth.

Several weeks ago there was an interesting interview. Pattie Mallette was telling of how she found herself pregnant when she was 18 years old and not knowing where to turn or what to do. She was told by some to have an abortion but couldn’t bring herself to do this. She heard of a Christian group that helps young women going through times such as this. She contacted them and through their help nine months later, she delivered a beautiful baby boy. He is now grown up and we know him as Justin Bieber.

I am currently in the middle class due to my union job. Because of the economy our contract had no raises this year so exactly how am I better off now? I pay the same prices at the gasoline pump and in the grocery store as everyone else. My union bricklayer husband has been without regular work for four years now. I work hard and pray every day that my department won’t be downsized again. So please tell me how am I better off now?

It sickens me to hear that 400 perfectly good trees were cut down for the space shuttle Endeavour’s trip down the streets of Los Angeles. We are not going to have any oxygen to breathe due to the emerald ash borer and chopping trees in the forest preserves, tornados and windstorms. It’s really sad. People better wake up and realize that without trees we don’t have much of a future. Let’s try to take care of our trees and not cut them down needlessly.

I challenge anyone complaining about Link card abuse to show one shred of evidence that a gasoline station has sold gas or an Apple store has sold a phone and accepted the Link card as payment. Instead of spreading lies about Link card holders, you should channel your anger where it really belongs.

Tinley Park

All of these protests and riots around the world by Muslim extremists just shows me that we still have no respect in their eyes. All this time we have been apologetic and they still don’t give America any respect.

Why is it that when minority politicians get in trouble while in office they tend to receive more votes for re-election than they received when they first took office?

Mr. G from Chicago

I wonder how long we will have to wait before we hear some conservative detractor of science denying Felix Baumgartner’s space jump.

Wes from Orland Park

I see the St. Fabian Catholic Church’s Knights of Columbus Council 967 are having their annual spaghetti dinner on Oct. 28 in Bridgeview. Our family went to it in 2011 and it was quite a pleasant evening. For the price, you get a good meal with table service and decorations make you think you’re in a real Italian restaurant. I highly recommend that everyone who can make this event, give it a try. I know that we are going back for sure.
