Congratulations to the Shedd Aquarium on the birth of Mauyak’s baby beluga whale. I look forward to seeing the baby up close and watching the calf grow.
How nice was it to see Cheryl Burton on the TV show “Windy City Live”? She has plenty of talent and is pleasant to look at. She is much better than regular co-host Val Warner. I hope Burton can be a permanent replacement.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has a new position every day. How can anyone trust this guy? He is a liar. We have no idea what he will do if he gets into the White House.
In response to the Speak Out comment from Midlothian, why shouldn’t we have to compete with everyone in a particular profession to at least level the playing field? Everyone, not just union employees, should have the right to work. Our founders laid down this right in our U.S. Constitution. Unions at their onset were the best for many but have since become the worst in terms of protecting the incapable.

Police officers like Anthony Abbate, who was found guilty of the aggravated battery of bartender Karolina Obrycka, are a disgrace. They are the reason some good people are afraid of the police. Cops are there to help not be belligerent drunks. My father had a serious heart attack. Was my response to go get drunk and beat people up ? Being a cop is rough and often thankless. However, you are not above the law.
I think the founding of America was not based on Christian ideals; it was based on deist ideals, if anything.
I believe U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh has either gone off his rocker or just doesn’t care if he gets elected. The remarks he keeps making leave you gasping for air.
The Chicago White Sox are not exactly rolling in the World Series victories themselves, you know. Prior to the 2005 World Series, the last White Sox World Series was in 1917. Whether it’s 88 years for the Sox or 104 years for the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago baseball teams both have pretty poor world championship histories. That’s why ever since I was 12 years old, I’ve been following the Chicago Blackhawks and the Chicago Bears more than our Chicago baseball teams. I think we can all agree that Chicago is the best hockey and football town in the world.
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle is grasping at straws to try to balance the budget. She is delusional if she thinks adding a tax to bullets and guns is going to lower crime. Gun violence is criminal, not monetary. Do you really think that someone who is going to buy a gun for violence is going to care if they have to pay 5 cents more per bullet? Most of those guns are not even acquired legally. What she is saying is if we cannot stop gun violence then we should profit from it.
No human being should ever be called “illegal.” He may be in the United States illegally, but that is a reflection of our laws, his country and the current condition of the world. But the human being is not illegal. Using the word “illegal” as a descriptor of another human being says more about you than the other human being.
I think 15400 Laramie Ave. has the best decorated Halloween home in Oak Forest. From the four full-scale skeleton pallbearers with casket and the ghostly crypt to the animated, electronic sound-filled house, yard and garage, the place is fantastic. If you want the best haunting experience it is the place to see. I hope it gets an award. We talked to the owner and he has made by hand many of the things there. It is awesome.

I thought Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan and Gov. Pat Quinn raised the state’s income tax for education. They also have the Illinois Lotto to help education. The funds have gone into the state’s Common School Fund. Madigan and Quinn state they want to drop the teachers’ pensions onto local school districts like Chicago does, but this likely will raise homeowners’ property taxes. Also, I believe Chicago has taken money from the taxpayers and not paid the teachers’ pensions. They are completely underfunded.

To quote columnist Phil Kadner: “What troubles me the most is that someone running for public office simply refuses to answer questions in person or return phone calls.” Was Kadner talking about Illinois Senate candidate Barbara Bellar or U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.?

As a union member and independent voter, it infuriates me when I receive an endorsement letter from my union about candidates who hold values far from my own. It sickens me.
Our pro-life group was participating in a prayer vigil outside St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church in Matteson. Two young men showed up with donuts and juice for all of us. One of the men wanted to thank us for standing up for the unborn. He said he had lost a child to abortion. Our group sends our condolences for his loss. We would like to thank him for sharing with us and for his kindness.

President Obama has all of these big stars advocating for him. These stars are telling you how to cast your vote. These stars have millions in the bank. They don’t care who the president is. Look at the facts instead of listening to these so-called idols. They don’t care what goes on with the common folks. Don’t listen to these idiots. Listen to the issues.
