I love Cheryl Burton but I think that Ryan Chiaverini and Val Warner are doing a great job as co-hosts on the TV show “Windy City Live.”
A Speak Out commenter from Burbank recently asked if Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White and Cook County Assessor Joe Berrios think the public is dumb. Yes, they do. Pick up a newspaper on Nov. 7 and you will see why.

Regarding illegal immigrants: People in the United States or any other country illegally are illegal aliens. They are not citizens and are not here on a work or visitor’s visa so they do not belong here. They are illegal immigrants. Many countries imprison illegals or immediately deport them. There is none of this weak, bending over that our country does. Illegals are illegal.
The government workers’ unions had their time and place. They solved many of the problems in the workplace. But I think they now take the union dues to support candidates who actually harm the workers by asking bankrupt state governments to keep giving them benefits and demanding unreasonable pay. The candidates they support will give them the things they want in order to get the votes. We the taxpayers end up paying for these benefits. We cannot do it any longer. We are going broke.
Pro-life advocates who say life begins at conception and that abortion should only be allowed if there is risk to the mother are really pro-choice. They are choosing the life of the mother over the life of another human being. Isn’t that making a choice over who lives and who dies? Also, if one is deciding whether to go through with the birth or not, what would be considered a legitimate risk to the health of the mother — 100 percent risk of death, 50 percent, 10 percent, 1 percent? Again, these are more choices.
Isn’t it obvious that most of the actors you see on television or in the movies don’t really possess any great talent? Heck, there must be hundreds of thousands of people who could get a scene right if they had the opportunity to have multiple takes to get it right. These so-called talented people pass around awards to each other to give the impression that they possess skills beyond those of the masses. Most of them are pretty limited, conversationally, as any talk show interview could demonstrate.
I know how to get U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. back to work. Pay him only when he is working, like regular working people. If he misses quarters in his insurance then he doesn’t get coverage. It’s that simple.
We are becoming more and more discriminatory when it comes to women’s rights. I think men are making all of the decisions. What a slap in the face for the 21st century!
The news media kept stressing that the Chicago teachers hadn’t gone on strike in 25 years. The reason they hadn’t gone on strike in 25 years is because the Democrats who run Chicago caved in and gave them everything they wanted for the past 25 years. That’s why the average Chicago teacher makes $75,000 per year when the average private-sector person probably makes $30,000 less per year. They received an average of a 17.6 percent pay increase over four years. It’s unbelievable.
I feel that it is necessary to clarify this nonsense about voter suppression and showing identification. In order to vote you need to register. In order to register in Illinois you do not have to show a birth certificate. Even the elderly have some sort of identification. Right now there are easy ways to get an identification at any Secretary of State facility. So there is no voter suppression.
Mokena recently approved video gambling. Now it’s time for Tinley Park to do the same. Please help the veterans organizations in Tinley Park.
I see that Congress is investigating and trying to figure out what could have been done to stop what happened in Libya during the U.S. Consulate attack. Here is my consensus: A contingent of Marines, airborne from the 101st division, Army rangers and Navy SEALs plus four squadrons of F-16s overhead. I think that would have prevented it. And I’m not even a strategist.

People who like to put taxes on cigarettes and alcohol call them a “sin tax.” How sanctimonious is that? Since when is it a sin for adults to participate in legal amusements meant for them? I’m all for taxing guns and bullets because these are meant to kill people. That, to me, is a sin.
I can’t believe Illinois has $4 million to spare. Helped by more than $4 million in state grants, Oak Lawn is sprucing up or expanding a number of parks and other facilities. Voters are never going to get rid of politicians who keep handing out goodies.

What exactly has Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney lied about? All I hear is about how Mitt Romney is constantly lying. If Romney is constantly lying, I wonder what President Obama is doing because he would never lie. Right?
It’s funny how the economy is supposed to be bad and people are so-called poor, yet there are some people who still go out and buy the iPhone 5 or any other big electronics or go out to eat or shopping. I guess people are not doing as bad as they make it out to be.
