What a treat to find out that Home Run Inn has a Southland location. I’m looking forward to some pizza from the new place in Chicago’s Beverly community.
Something has to be done about drunk driving. There has to be jail sentences whether or not it’s the first offense. Drunk driving has to stop.

Let’s face it. For the vast majority of people, their religious beliefs as adults are the same as what they were taught as a child. It is an emotional attachment after all. Who wants to admit that their parents were wrong? There are a few that convert to another religion for the sake of their spouses. There are a few that actually sit down and look at the facts, then make a logical decision based on those facts. Those are invariably the atheists.
To Phil Kadner regarding his column about Hammond, Ind.: It’s called capitalism — how America used to be. If Chicago Heights Mayor David Gonzalez doesn’t like Hammond’s price, he should shop around. Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has water for sale, but I don’t hear Chicago Heights crying about that price from a potential supplier. I don’t know anything about Hammond, but at least their mayor, Thomas McDermott Jr., is doing his job by managing his municipality’s bottom line and helping his taxpaying constituents to keep their costs low. Is he available in 2016 for a bigger mess to fix?

I don’t know why CIA Director David Petraeus had to resign. He didn’t do anything more wrong than President Clinton. Clinton didn’t resign. Hillary Clinton didn’t divorce her husband. She forgave him. Petraeus didn’t do anything more wrong than the Rev. Jesse Jackson. Jackson didn’t step down. His wife, Jacqueline Brown, forgave him. It seems like Republicans always have to resign after things like this but Democrats do not. I guess Petraeus is a Republican.

I commented on soap operas as I saw two guys going at it as soon as a show began. This was my real complaint as children, especially small ones, are around. I agree with the commenter from Willow Springs. Leave the sex out especially between same-sex couples.
Teachers striking seems to be like a plague of locusts sweeping across Illinois. Your town can be next.
An article in the SouthtownStar revealed former paramedic Gregory J. Serratore, now a police officer with the Cook County Forest Preserve District, was on disability and drew more than $425,000 since 1982. This kind of thing goes on all the time. You ought to do some more investigative reporting.
Even though cyclist Lance Armstrong was tested each time before he raced and they couldn’t find anything, somebody turned him in and squealed. Now they are taking away all of his trophies and accomplishments. He is losing endorsements and has to step down from his charities. They will probably take his bicycle next.
Libraries have books galore and much much more. Pick up the new winter schedules at your local library. They have many innovative programs that will stimulate your senses. There may be a film series, a concert, yoga, writers’ groups, art displays, authors to meet, cooking sessions and assistance with our computers. The friends of the library ought to be commended for sponsoring many of these excellent programs. With the holidays fast approaching, a library activity could be just what the doctor ordered.

There she was in front of a restaurant. She was heaven-sent. She was beautiful. Everything was perfect about her. Everybody glanced at her. I was lovestruck again. She was a 1955 Chevy convertible in mint condition.

If you plan to keep your pet outside all day while you’re at work during the winter, make sure it has good shelter, water and food. Animals do get cold and can get frostbite. If anyone knows of anyone abusing their pet, please call the proper authorities.
One of the biggest travesties in the United States is this gasoline and oil problem. Gas prices were actually dropping during the campaign season. Sure enough, after President Obama won re-election gas prices went up by 20 cents. They always look for an excuse to raise gas prices. It’s wrong.
By putting the military into these troubled areas, it’s only going to give the gangbangers more targets to shoot at. The sad truth is the police and the people who live there know who these gangbangers are and where they hang out. The only way to stop this violence is to send them all away to a place like Devil’s Island and let them kill each other.

To prepare young people for the real world I think all high schools should be teaching students how to sue their teachers when they receive any grade less than an A. It seems like learning how to sue someone is the best way to get ahead in America.
Limiting Chicago Public Schools children to skim milk or low-fat cheese is totally ridiculous while allowing them to sell candy bars for fundraisers. Where are these people’s priorities? Full cheese and full whole milk never made any one child fat. Lack of exercise, sweet carbonated drinks and chocolate do. Get your priorities straight.
