Congratulations to Grace and Wayne Adams, of Dolton, on celebrating seven decades of marriage. You inspire all of us hopeful romantics.
Thanksgiving is a day to spend with loved ones and special people in your life. It is a day to give thanks for all you are thankful for. But now retailers are opening on Thanksgiving Day for people looking for bargains. What about the employees who should be spending Thanksgiving with loved ones? They are required to work just so people can get a deal. Customers need to stay away in droves. Send a message to greedy retailers that we will not support them on Thanksgiving Day.
Kudos to Chicago Sun-Times Cook County reporter Lisa Donovan for the great article about the county and sheriff’s boards. I found out that Gov. Pat Quinn has a ton of boards and commissions. If everyone is cutting and Quinn tells us we are broke, I think Quinn should cut some of his boards or commissions. I think that would be very viable.
We were promised change four years ago by President Obama. That change has done nothing for me. My husband and I have no jobs and our property is practically worthless. Tell me why I should not join the coalition that wishes to secede from this tax-greedy government?
The Democrats like to say they are going to take care of the middle-class people. I guess that means Illinois will not be transferring the teachers’ pension debt and liability to the suburbs. That would be a disaster to the middle-class people. I guess we will have to wait and see their true colors.
They never offered former Gov. George Ryan and former Gov. Rod Blagojevich plea deals. How can you treat U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. differently from the others? I think they all committed crimes. A crime is a crime. You should do your time.
I heard that they are going to redo Navy Pier for $85 million. If Chicago is so broke, how can they afford to do that? Why would they want to do that? Navy Pier is fine just the way it is.

Is anyone going to check up on the American Red Cross and all that money they have collected for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts? Some people from the devastated area said on television, on radio and in newspapers that they have never seen any member of the Red Cross or anything. Apparently nobody is getting any help at all. Where is the money going?
More about people not using their turn signals: I love to get behind someone at an intersection where they have to turn one way or the other because the street ends and they can’t be bothered with that hard-to-use turn-signal lever. Would you buy a vehicle in which the turn signals don’t work? I have seen drivers of all ages guilty of this and it seems to be escalating. The police could be making a fortune on this problem.

Does anyone have a clue as to how many illegal immigrants across the United States voted in the recent presidential election? Is there even a way to find out? I think the figure is in the hundreds of thousands. This has emboldened the Latino community to push for more “rights.”
How does a man wearing a helmet protecting a quarterback on a football field make millions and millions more than a man wearing a helmet protecting America? If that’s not backwards then I don’t know what is.

I find it almost disgraceful the amount of coverage you give to firefighters who have lost their lives due to being out of shape. Do you know how much money they get when they die on the job plus all of the memorial money they are trying to get? What about the 18-year-old soldier who died? What do our veterans get? Newspapers dedicate page after page to these firefighters. It is unbelievable.
Memo to columnist Phil Kadner: Stop being a shill for the proposed south suburban airport. You must be a beneficiary of a land trustee who owns runway land. Visit MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in St. Clair County, Ill. This pork barrel cost the taxpayers $313 million. It was called a gateway to nowhere. Enough with the south suburban airport! We don’t need another pork barrel built in Will County.
What is wrong with Country Club Hills? Mayor Dwight Welch and his aide, former city manager Henrietta Turner, combined used $75,000 worth of the taxpayer-funded credit card for food and drinks. Now he is getting private police protection. The citizens of Country Club Hills are nuts if they elect him again.
The difference between the health care that Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney passed in Massachusetts and Obamacare is the state is running it instead of the federal government. So the health care in Massachusetts can be run more efficiently. Do some research and find out.

I am a union janitor. I do not recall going to school for custodial arts.
I live in New Lenox but I’m starting to feel like I’m living in a police state. Every time I drive around town I see these squad cars hiding and clocking people. They are everywhere. Now that they are building their new police station, which I don’t think they really need, I guess they will be getting more squad cars to patrol the streets. They look so ominous and foreboding.
