What a shame that CBS, NBC and ABC did not air the concert for Hurricane Sandy victims. Instead, they showed useless programs like “Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2012.”
We have more conveniences but less time. We multiply our possessions but reduce our values. We spend more and have less. Then we buy more and enjoy less. Learn to rush, not to wait. Long on quantity but short on quality. Two incomes yet more divorce. Fancier houses yet broken homes. Things make you happy for only a short time. You should focus on what you have and not what you haven’t. Life is a chain of memories, not possessions. This coming holiday, give thanks for what is truly important in your life. That is your family and friends.
I lived in Country Club Hills 25 years ago. The town was in decline and not looking very good at that time. Since Dwight Welch has been mayor, the town is 10 times better than it was. Children who grew up there are moving back in and raising their families there. It’s a much better environment. He may have made a few mistakes along the way, but Welch has done 10 times more good for the city. It’s all politics. If you get rid of Welch and put the people who want to be mayor in there, see what happens.
To the readers who think we don’t need unions: Try working at the big-box stores. I think you’ll get minimum wage, a small chance for a raise and no negotiation for wages, benefits or work hours. Unions started because people had no rights. The employer controlled hours, wages and safety. Early working conditions were terrible. China is now this way. When employees have no rights, then there is no future, no pension and no benefits. If you work for a company that has no rules and can do anything they want to you, then your future is bad.
Regarding the shooting at a Connecticut elementary school: Gun lobby and National Rifle Association: 27 and rising: Kindergartners and community: 0. Are we a nation of laws for life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, or are we a nation of gun rights? Teachers are now your child’s first line of defense.
If our economy goes down the tubes, and it’s already been in bad shape for the last four years, then I’m laying the blame squarely on President Obama. I think he has done nothing to lead. He doesn’t work with Congress. He appoints czars to sidestep the Congress. He doesn’t sit down to negotiate in good faith. He acts as if he wants us to go over the fiscal cliff so he can raise taxes on everyone and blame it on somebody else. So when this economy gets worse than it is now, I’m blaming President Barack Hussein Obama II.
I agree that the Tinley Park Park District should not be a parking lot for a car dealership. In addition to liability and safety issues, especially with children in the area, it appears to be favorable treatment for one of their sponsors. Given the poor responses by the Tinley Park Park District director to columnist Phil Kadner’s questions and lack of communications and marketing efforts to residents, this suspicious arrangement with Bettenhausen Motor Sales needs to end today, not in April. What other deals does the Tinley Park Park District have in place with other sponsors?
Keith from Tinley Park
It tickles my heart that people are finally realizing that the policemen and firemen are overpaid and underworked most of the time especially in the suburbs. These are not heroes. These are workers. They work just like you and I work. We got a job and we work the job.
I think most illegal immigrants are smart enough to know that once they are licensed to drive, then the government will have more information about them than they want anyone to know.
Don from Palos Hills
Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle should not blame Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel or Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy for high crime in Chicago. I think witnesses don’t talk or call the special number to give information. That’s how you beat the high crime. Don’t blame schools for poor performance. Blame the parents who don’t care to help their children with obedience, homework or studying. Put the blame where it belongs.
Michigan and other Midwest states are going for right-to-work bills. All you middle-class workers and union people who vote Republican can thank yourselves for this. When they cut your wages and do away with your benefits, guess who you will have to blame for it.
I wonder why we can’t execute murderers like former Bolingbrook cop Drew Peterson or Christopher Vaughn yet former U.S. Rep. Mel Reynolds, a convicted pedophile and sex offender, can rerun for office. Only in Illinois!
Please make a donation to Pets Are Worth Saving Chicago. It’s an animal shelter for little dogs and kittens.

It’s for his own benefit. There’s a trustee in Oak Lawn that usually will make decisions on his district with ideas that please him. He does not take the good of the residents in his decisions. That came to the front when he won by just a few votes in the last election. Hopefully this will awaken the voters and bring in someone that has the good of the people in his district, not the grandstanding of his great accomplishments, if that’s what one would call them. I’m tired of it.
To those who are hurting at this sad time of year, I extend a virtual hug. I hope you can find peace and solace in cherished memories of the loved ones you have lost.
