New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie answers questiThursday Jan.17 2013 TrentN.J. Christie said New Jersey is taking more deliberative approach gun

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie answers a question Thursday, Jan.17, 2013, in Trenton, N.J. Christie said New Jersey is taking a more deliberative approach to gun control, mental health and school security by forming a task force to study the issues and make recommendations within 60 days. Christie refused to take a position on President Barack Obama's call for a federal ban on assault weapons. New Jersey has had an assault weapons ban in place for 21 years, and Christie says he supports state gun laws already on the books. (AP Photo/Mel Evans)

If New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie becomes president in 2016, I think it would not be business as usual for the Republican Party because he has no problem telling off anyone standing in his way.

To all the people who are offended with the Proud Union Home signs: I want to thank all the union people, past and present, because if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have been able to spend time with my kids growing up, coaching their baseball games and watching their basketball and football games. I wouldn’t have had a regular life. Regular working hours and days off sure help with family life. Thank you.

It seems like Detroit is a safer place to live than Chicago. Thank you, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy. You have made the city a real dump.

The recent flu outbreak isn’t from people who didn’t get the flu shot. Some of the people who did get the flu shot are getting the flu just like everyone else.

I have noticed in the south suburbs lately a lot of people standing on corners with signs asking for help. Is this legit?

Maybe former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson and former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. can now think about remodeling their new home, which will be located right next to former Gov. George Ryan and former Go. Rod Blagojevich.

The only reason Steve Eberhardt, of Tinley Park, wants mandatory term limits for all elected officials is because he wants to become mayor. He knows he can’t get elected any other way running against a tried-and-true and known person like Mayor Ed Zabrocki. Let’s keep Zabrocki. He has kept this town solvent forever. We are better with a known quality than someone who has hundreds of Freedom of Information Act requests. Eberhardt strikes me as a fanatic.

I think they are full of it when they say there is a pension problem in Illinois. How much is that high-speed rail going to cost? How much is that third airport going to cost? How much is the 11 millionth street construction project going to cost? How much is another lawsuit going to cost? I think they have been dipping their fingers in the pension funds for so long now that they can just repay the fund with the money they stole from it to fund the other useless projects.

Thank you for the coverage of high school sports in the SouthtownStar. I know so many grandparents, parents and kids look forward to reading and seeing pictures of all of our local stars. Hooray for the kids who practice and work so hard. College and national sports are available everywhere. This is what makes the SouthtownStar a unique family newspaper.

This is a message from the Link card police: Drop the Viagra that Medicaid incorrectly paid for and stop having more welfare babies.

Am I the only one who is tired of all the junk the electricity company sends to me along with my bill? I also wonder how much they are paid to stuff my bill with all these unwanted advertisements. Stop it already!

Merrionette Park

About protecting our children: Why doesn’t the federal government withhold a tiny fraction of the billions of dollars that we send to foreign countries, which seem to hate us, and use that money to put armed guards in all schools? Does our government think the radicals we give our taxpayer money to are more important then our most precious asset are?

Basil

I am so tired of the disrespect shown toward President Obama. Someone commented that they think this government is unconstitutional and it reminds them of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. What? This is crazy talk. This is an example of an uninformed, uneducated person repeating the nonsense they hear from some right wing-nuts. It is unacceptable to compare Obama to Hitler. I am appalled that the SouthtownStar would even print this comment.

I’m a momma who went to a doughnut chain with a coupon that stated $1 off any purchase of $5 or more. I ordered, and my bill was $5.43. I handed them my valid coupon, and they handed it back stating the bill had to be at least $6 for me to use this $5-off coupon. I was mad as hell and still am. This chain just lost a daily customer over $1. It did not say “$6.” It said “$5 or more.” What a rip-off!

A Speak Out commenter stated that if Cardinal Francis George dips his foot into the pool of politics, then the Catholic Church shouldn’t be tax-exempt. Likewise, President Obama shouldn’t stick his foot in the pool of religion and tell them what to do.

Don from Chicago

The Illinois politicians just keep granting these illegal immigrants more rights and more freedoms. It’s not right. They don’t deserve to be here. Deport them.

Dave from Beecher

The recent murder in the parking lot at Chicago State University after a basketball game between Morgan Park High School and Simeon Career Academy demonstrates that we don’t need the likes of the Rev. Michael Pfleger and his army of cohorts telling us how to fix the lawlessness. What we need is martial law in these violence-ridden neighborhoods. Force is the only thing these thugs will understand. You want to save lives? Step up the pressure to abide by the law by placing armed troops in these areas.
