During the Vietnam War era there was Hanoi Jane aka Jane Fonda. Now there is Benghazi Hillary aka Hillary Clinton.

Gov. Pat Quinn should try to bring Illinois back to Illinois. He has driven people and dollars into Indiana to gamble in casinos, buy cigarettes and buy gasoline. Does he see himself as some sort of hero by driving these things out of Illinois?
According to Maureen from Palos Heights all these shootings are the result of our government taking God out of our schools and our lives. So is that what prevented him from stopping that wacko from shooting those innocent kids in Newtown, Conn.? Maybe he just couldn’t put down his copy of Guns & Ammo magazine. You know, God, Guns & America. Trust me; nothing kept God from stopping the shooter except God’s ambivalence. Oh, and his nonexistence.
Regarding abused cellular phone laws: The town of Monee has a hands-free cell phone law while driving. I agree and abide by it. What I don’t understand is why it seems like 99 percent of the police force in Monee, whether it be city or state police, have cell phones up to their ears while driving.

I think Chicago Ald. Ed Burke trying to ban energy drinks is stepping beyond his power and stepping on the people’s freedom. So the Chicago City Council wants to tell you what to eat and drink now. This is not the first try either. Remember Chicago Ald. Joe Moreno who tried to say Chick-fil-A couldn’t open up a restaurant? How about soda taxes? I guess they think they succeeded with banning cigarettes and now they are testing the waters to ban other things. Who are they to choose for us what food and drink is banned?
I get the SouthtownStar for local news. I have always read the high school sports section. I have two sons in high school that play sports because they love to play. One is in all honors and AP classes plus active in other things. My second son plays sports year-round. To say schools let athletes pass on grades is wrong. If grades drop they get benched. I as the parent will bench them before the school if I don’t like their grades. I believe high school kids should be recognized for what they do. They play because they want to.

I too, have had robins in my yard throughout this winter. Why should they bother going south now? I have a heated water bowl to accommodate basic wildlife needs. Also, I purchased a special cardinal mix blend of birdseed, which consists of more sunflower seeds. However, I have noticed no increase in cardinals than when I used a generic smaller seed mix. It’s rewarding to offer them all an oasis.
My father was 14 years old when he came to America in 1922. He immigrated to America from Europe through Ellis Island. He was sponsored by family members who were legally here. There was no government mentoring. In 2013, the politicians in Washington, D.C., will probably give amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants. It seems like the Obama administration thinks this is a wonderful idea. Nothing has changed with his re-election. His policies and excessive entitlement programs will bankrupt our country. People from Latin America and the Middle East likely believe America is the land of the supportive taxpayer.

I see another Speak Out comment regarding the “antics” of Tinley Park mayoral challenger Steve Eberhardt and how the commenter supports the current Tinley Park group. Tell me, is the SouthtownStar supporting Tinley Park Mayor Ed Zabrocki and his group? Is this why we rarely see any negative comments on Zabrocki?
I am sick and tired of all this “teacher this” and “teacher not” conversations. Why not do this? Let those that want to have their high school kids take the lessons at home on the computer via the World Wide Web do just that. These families would then receive a tax credit for doing so. I am sure the teachers unions would be agreeable to this. After all, many college students are and have been doing this very same thing for years now.
There is no end in sight. Chicago is continuously making headlines. There was another violent Saturday with seven people dead recently. When is it going to cease?

After all the pregame hype about the Super Bowl halftime show, I was disappointed. I thought Beyonce was less than entertaining. And Alicia Keys, the woman that sang our national anthem, was a disgrace.

To Wayne Smith, general manager of Hollywood Casino in Joliet: I don’t think the millions of dollars spent on your “grand entrance” increased your business, and neither will opening a trashy nightclub where women can appear wearing only a black bra as a top. Here’s a news flash. Loosen up the machines, and my husband and I and thousands of others will come back.
Regarding the commenter who said there were outdated laws in the U.S. Constitution: I would love to know which laws you’re referring to? Please elaborate. This is America and everyone is entitled to their opinion. Call it their freedom of speech, or maybe that’s something you think is outdated also. You’re welcome, U.S. Constitution.
