Winter drivers not only have to battle the weather elements but also the damage that road salt does to their vehicles. | File photo

Sometimes they overdo it with the road salt. They sometimes go back and forth, saturating the streets and throwing salt into driveways and yards. It seems like a waste of money for a little snowfall.
To the individual who does not want to read the high school sports in the SouthtownStar: You have my sympathy. You would rather read a front page about the teens who are being murdered or doing the murdering rather than the teens who are achieving in high school and who will be our future leaders. I personally would rather read about the teens who are successful in sports and learning teamwork. You would do yourself a favor by checking out those sport pages and seeing who you will be voting for in 10 to 15 years.

Dear media, I don’t care about Beyonce’s halftime performance at the Super Bowl or football player Mante Te’o’s possible girlfriend hoax. I don’t care about first lady Michelle Obama’s dress at the inauguration either. The burning question is: How come gasoline has risen 75 cents in the last three to four weeks? Can TV journalist Katie Couric sit down with somebody and grill them about this?

How do they know that these new illegal immigrant drivers are going to keep their car insurance? They can just show that they have insurance for the first month to get the license and then drop the coverage. How are our highways going to be safer? There should be a special addition that nothing bad can happen to your insurance when you are involved with a person with one of these illegal immigrant driver’s licenses because you just know your insurance payment is going to go up when you get into an accident with one of these people.
It seems like a lot of hair salons are getting robbed. Why don’t they lock the door? A customer can just knock or ring the bell to be let in. If it’s a guy with a hoodie on, then you know he’s probably not someone who would come in. I don’t understand why they don’t just lock the door.
In a recent Stay-At-Home Dad column, Howard Ludwig stated that he force-fed his two little boys with food that they didn’t want. He insisted that they eat it no matter what. You ought to be ashamed of yourself treating those little boys that way. You made them throw up. The way you presented that food, even if it was ice cream, they would throw up. Kids don’t throw up as a punishment to you or to show control. Where is your wife, Howard? Somebody help these children.

They are talking all about the concussions that adults and children are getting from football yet someone wants to bring back boxing. Does this sound crazy or what? You’re going to get concussions from boxing also.
I think you’re going to see a lot more disrespect for President Obama, a person who does not follow his own country’s Constitution. The U.S. Constitution is a historical document that a real American pledges to support and protect.
It seems like a high majority of bankruptcies that I see coming through the courts are due to some sort of medical financial burden. It’s a shame that in America, the greatest country on Earth, people can still be driven into bankruptcy by health care providers. I think this is something that would never happen in Canada, Poland, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany or any other civilized European country. But here in the United States people are still burdened with medical debt.
When are the politicians going to tell Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy to clean out his desk and go home, and get somebody from within our own police department to be the superintendent?
Mike P. from Chicago
Running the school bus stop signs is just wrong. Those stop signs are put out there for a reason. How would you like it if it were your child crossing the street and someone running a stop sign hit your child? Think about it before you do something stupid.
If these so-called Link card watchers think there is so much fraud, then why don’t they report these abuses when they see it? Stop bad-mouthing the rest of us who are using the Link card honestly. I am tired of reading about it in Speak Out.
I wonder if the Cook County jails allow coed cells. That way former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife, former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson, can share a jail cell. The only decision to be made is who will sleep on the top bunk and who will sleep on the bottom bunk.
I was very disappointed that Tinley Park officials chose a food vendor from another community for the 80th Avenue train station. Another business just closed its door on Oak Park Avenue. We are encouraged to shop Tinley. I think village officials should do the same. This is a very poor reflection of the Tinley Park marketing department.
Greg from Tinley Park
God gave all of us free will to do good or evil. I think without God in our lives there will undoubtably be more evil than good.
Some conservatives are trying to blame the Super Bowl blackout on President Obama because of New Orleans’ power grid. Sometimes the right just doesn’t take a break from anything.
The people in these neighborhoods know who these gangsters are. The cops know who these gangsters are. They all know where these gangsters hang out. They should just pick these gangsters up, send them to Devil’s Island and let them kill each other.
