What an exciting time for Palos Community Hospital. I hope the 400,000-square-foot Hospitaller Pavilion set to open in March will be a boon for the community and the hospital itself.
God forbid, if Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan ever gets elected governor of Illinois. Can you picture her along with her father, Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, running this state? That would be like giving an arsonist a flamethrower.

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel can hire people on a committee to see if they should privatize this or that, but he can’t hire more policemen, which Chicago needs so desperately. Stop playing games or resign.

Someone commented that Scout leader jobs will be sought by perverts if the Boy Scouts allow gay people. Your comment suggests that gay men are perverts. There are perverts found everywhere and it has nothing to do with one’s sexual orientation. I believe perversion to be a sickness or disorder. Your comment demonstrates a lack of tolerance, misinformation and bigotry. I wonder how you would feel if you had a son or brother that was gay. I bet your opinion would change.
To the commenter who is pushing Steve Eberhardt for his plan for Tinley Park: He has a plan and wants to debate Mayor Ed Zabrocki. So what’s the problem? I think Zabrocki refuses to debate because he knows Mr. Eberhardt does have a plan and a darn good one, too. So, come on, Zabrocki. Let’s get on with the debate so we can all see what you have been doing and what your plans are.

They keep asking President Obama to help with the Chicago violence. They have these preachers like the Rev. Michael Pfleger walking the streets trying to stop the violence, and it still hasn’t stopped. They had the Rev. Jesse Jackson speak and the violence still hasn’t stopped. Why would you want the president to come in if you can’t do it? We need somebody who knows how to run a police department. If they don’t want to bring in more police, bring in the National Guard and put them in some of these bad neighborhoods.
Back in the 1960s before people talked about child abuse, a neighborhood man was considered a great teacher. He mentored boys, took them on camping trips and had them to his house to swim. We kids thought of this bachelor as weird. The adults didn’t. It wasn’t until the 1970s that it came out about his sexual abuse of some of these boys. We also learned he was gay, as he became more open with his male friends. Go ahead, Boy Scouts. Allow gay people in openly. Then wait for the child abuse because I think it will follow. Fools!
We have a million-dollar reward and national news coverage over this rouge former Los Angeles cop wanted for murder. Why? Because he is targeting and killing cops and not the average Joe and Jane in the community? Who said there is no class system in Amerika?
I don’t know where columnist Phil Kadner was sitting at the Governors State University debate featuring candidates for the 2nd Congressional District. When former U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson said she opposed the weapon ban, everyone around me applauded and cheered. I did not hear a single boo. At the Peotone debate, a candidate opposed carrying a concealed weapon in Illinois and was universally booed by the crowd.

I have read a couple of comments about what an “eyesore” the corner of 143rd Street and LaGrange Road is. Are you crazy? This intersection is the best-looking intersection around. You have all new stonework and beautiful brickwork including walkways. All the ugly wires and leaning poles that were so ugly are underground now. All you see are beautiful lamplights and new traffic poles, not to mention the new landscaping, benches and wrought iron fencing. The four corners look great. You must be a Republican, grumpy and never satisfied.

Is it me or are the digital billboards too bright? They hurt my eyes and we have enough light pollution.

I have been a Chicago Bears fan for many years, but I must say the Bears are a disgrace to the best fans in the whole world. Bears fans only want a fair shake and to be competitive against their opponents. Former head coach Lovie Smith had to go. The Bears have to go young in the next draft. Quarterback Jay Cutler is completely overrated. Our offensive line is like Swiss cheese. We need to start over next season.
It’s that time of year when we get snow and freezing temperatures. I wish to comment on my SouthtownStar deliveryman Sidney Brooks. No matter what the weather, Sid places my paper next to the front door without exception. Here’s a man who takes pride working for the newspaper. Sid, you have my vote as No. 1 SouthtownStar deliveryman, no matter what the weather.

Regarding oil prices: To the person who wants to know the oil companies’ excuse for the spike in gasoline prices: Well, when the government prints more Monopoly money instead of stopping their out-of-control spending, our money becomes worth less so we have to pay the oil producers more for our oil. In any event you better get used to higher prices on everything especially if they downgrade America’s credit rating again.
Rest in peace, Busia. Your family and friends will always be grateful for the fond memories you gave to us during your too-short life.
