Stretchino’s Pizzeria owner Tim Stretch went from being a health care jobs recruiter to launching a Chicago Ridge business. I hope leaving his comfort zone is a success for him.

To the two men who helped my dad when he slipped and fell on the ice at 108th Street and Cicero Avenue: Thanks. He is doing well and your kindness means a lot to our family. It is nice to know there are people like you who care about others.

Sue from Palos Heights

I see where Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart hired Edward M. Burke Jr., Chicago Ald. Ed Burke’s son, and promoted Jr. to head Dart’s agency’s child-support enforcement unit. Cook County is so crooked. We’ve got to separate Crook County from the rest of the state of Illinois if we ever want to prosper. It’s as simple as that.

Bob from Oak Forest

Why do the Democratic voters in the United States reward incompetence? After the last election I will never underestimate the stupidity of the Democratic Party. President Obama has done nothing to solve our problems. He has increased our deficit, our unemployment rate is sky-high and our economy is in the toilet. Obama is leading the United States into bankruptcy and destruction. Nice going, Democrats.

Alsip Joe

I would like someone to take a ride down Orchard Drive in Park Forest and look at the terrible mess the construction company made. From what I’ve seen, the bike path is as wide as the driving lane. Some drivers are getting the bike path confused with the drivers’ lane. I can’t understand what the construction workers were thinking.

The voters of the 2nd Congressional District should be aware of where the money is coming from for the candidacy of former state Rep. Robin Kelly. I get daily campaign mailings from her, and they speak to her one-issue candidacy about gun control. If we want more of the same, which means nothing will change in the 2nd Congressional District, then by all means vote for Kelly. I think she is the one the political establishment wants in office because she is the one they can control.

Flossmoor

The thing we have to cut in the deficit is the Pentagon and the military. Once again the Air Force has wasted $1 billion on a system that does not work. I wonder how many people could have been feed or could have been helped with $1 billion.

How does the Rev. Jesse Jackson have the time to write a column for the Chicago Sun-Times when he leads every march and he’s on television all the time? Is there are ghostwriter?

Peotone

I keep reading about teachers’ strikes. When are the taxpayers going to get together and have a taxpayers’ strike?

Tinley Park

The words “I am sorry” are words that you never hear from the thugs who are killing innocent people. It goes back to their childhoods. Their mothers were always taking up for them and never making them apologize. The mothers will also blame teachers for these thugs’ failures. So what their mothers have raised are people who have no conscience and no respect for others or society.

Thank you, Phil Kadner, for the excellent column about our ineffective Illinois Legislature and Gov. Pat Quinn. As a lifelong resident of Illinois, I realize how impossible it is to ever have a problem-solving, unselfish and responsible government. It is time to relocate to a different state for a better life.

Chicago Heights

Before we pass judgment we must first educate ourselves. With the SouthtownStar being a newspaper for the suburbs I’m shocked with the misunderstanding of the majority of our suburban fire departments. I think the majority of suburban fire departments require members to be both paramedics and firefighters. Not only do they run into a burning building, but they also comfort your family in time of medical need. Fires may not be abundant but medical transports are ever-increasing. Let us educate ourselves before we cast stones.

The federal government is going to cut $1.2 trillion from the budget. This may include various programs like preschools, national parks and the military. At the same time they will be giving $1.2 billion to the Afghan Local Police to train and arm their force.

Pat from Monee

What are the qualifications of being a police officer or firefighter in Merrionette Park? I think our police department is so out of shape. If something were to happen then I don’t think they could even get out of their car. Also, the fire department’s response seems to take a long time.

Illinois would be the richest state in the union if the crooked, greedy and lying politicians weren’t stealing 75 percent of the money and wasting the rest. We need to vote them all out and get some honest and decent people in there.

Mary from Chicago

It was with sadness and respect that I read about the passing of Agnes Albinger, “Aunt Aggie,” at the great age of 103. I, like many, read about her in the SouthtownStar. She was a woman who lived a very productive life. She housed over 40 foster children. She worked a farm for many years, a responsibility she shouldered with the passing of her husband in 1957. She was a painter. She weathered the evil intentions of a relative who tried to steal her property. Aunt Aggie represented the rugged individualism that characterized her generation, which built the United States.
