What a surprise. I called my bank’s automatic phone service after hours and pushed the wrong button. A live person answered my request. It was a shocker.

Thank you to all of the Oak Lawn firefighters who came to my home to take me down my stairs so I could see my doctors. They were very considerate, caring and helpful. It’s great to know handicapped senior citizens can receive such care.

Judy K. from Oak Lawn

Now that actor Sean Penn’s apparent best friend, Venezuela President Hugo Chavez, has died I’m sure Sean will be wearing black and a veil over his head for the rest of the year. Talk about an ungrateful phony. That’s Sean Penn. The United States should deport this phony. We should put Penn, Hanoi Jane aka actress Jane Fonda and former Chicago Bull Dennis Rodman on the same boat out of the United States. Good riddance to these phonies!

I’m nearly 80 years old and have sat in many auto repair shops. I have experienced the cleanest waiting room with all of the amenities of comfort and cleanliness with new furniture with pillows, coffee, soda, sometimes homemade cookies, candy, television and the latest magazines. If you ever need work on your auto or an oil change, then come to Tuffy Auto Service Center in Orland Park and be happily comfortable. I absolutely do not know these people, so this is no free advertising. It’s just a hint to the public.

Rose from Orland Park

Beware of home rule. Unlike many states, Illinois lets even the smallest cities and villages take massive gambles with millions in loans, leaving the taxpayers on the hook. Municipal advocates insist that home rule power has largely improved towns, but others have found that suburb after suburb has gone deep in the hole over projects ranging from buying a roller rink to building condominiums. These are ventures far beyond the basics of buildings, roads and sewers.

More about the antiviolence bill for women, illegal immigrants, gay people, etc., and how white males are not extra protected: I really wish we moms and grandmoms would band together and vote in the best interests of our descendants, and not go with what I think is the popular brain-dead vote. Think of the future of our kids, grandkids, etc. I think everyone has special treatment but white males.

I just had my taxes done. My husband and I both work and are lucky to have work-sponsored medical insurance. My tax preparer was telling me how next year the Obamacare penalties will start. I think the freeloading parasites who have received free medical care all along will continue to do so while the working people who can’t afford it now will be penalized. Does this make sense? As usual, some people will continue to struggle while some welfare families will continue to suck the lifeblood out of America.

They had a display of hearses driving down the street to try to stop the violence. Everything they are trying is not working to stop this violence. I think they need to get the National Guard in here and put them in these bad areas. Maybe this would help. Everything else they are trying is not helping.

Whoever becomes the next mayor of Crestwood needs to get rid of that chamber of commerce combination deal you have with Oak Forest. Oak Forest lost their car dealerships and they have half-empty strip malls. Crestwood is the only town in recent years that lost their Kmart. There was that empty food store for years. Whatever you do, Crestwood, please get rid of that chamber of commerce merger you have with Oak Forest. I don’t think it’s doing any good. We have our own identity.

I see a large portion of the U.S. media is in Rome nitpicking on church policies. They should be here covering the White House closing tours because of lack of funds, yet President Obama wants to hire hundreds of new federal employees.

Ray from Park Forest

If there is anybody’s tax return that should be audited, it’s everybody who is getting a Link card or getting Women, Infants, and Children coupons. I think they claim every single child tax credit available whether they qualify or not, and nothing is done about it.

Health complications due to obesity cost the United States $190 billion in medical expenses each year.

Pat from Monee

I think Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai is a fraud and corrupt as you can get. Now he is constantly lying about the United States. If we put it to a vote to leave Afghanistan then I’m sure we can get about 90 percent to get out. Our people have given up enough over there. Bring the troops home.

If you approve gambling licenses in your town you might as well approve the opening of more payday loan shops right next door to these places.

England has an austerity program, but I think they may go into a triple-dip recession. That doesn’t sound too good to me.

Thanks to the lady who cleared the sidewalks on Leamington Avenue between 78th and 79th streets during the big snow day. She had a riding mower with a plow. That was a big help especially to the seniors.
