It’s good to see the Chicago Flower & Garden Show still features connections to the Southland. Congratulations to people like Mokena craftsman Casey Canady for having his work on display there.

I’d like to thank the Oak Forest Public Works Department for such a wonderful job during our snowstorm. Great job!

Jean from Oak Forest

I think people are beating this thing into the ground about Chicago Bulls guard Derrick Rose. He’s not the whole team. Leave the guy alone. When he decides to come back then he will come back.

Many Speak Out commenters rail against Link cards and entitlements to the poor. Stop looking down at those who are less fortunate than you. Stop blaming them when you really ought to be looking up at the corporate welfare that the United States dishes out annually. Corporate welfare amounts to far more than any entitlement program that goes to benefit the poor.

Joe from Blue Island

Attention, all Crestwood seniors. The free coffee you are getting from mayoral candidate Lou Presta is made with Crestwood water. Is he trying to kill the votes or get the votes?

Frank from Crestwood

My husband has worked for over 20 years for a company that went from American- to foreign-owned and mostly American workers to foreigners. He’s heard many rude comments like “Americans have too many freedoms,” “I’ll take your job” and “Americans are stupid.” With our revolving-door immigration policy, we are stupid. I think no other nation lets anyone in like we do. We pay taxes, foreigners don’t. They get public aid, we don’t. They take our good-paying jobs, we lose ours. And President Obama seems to think we need more immigrants. Still think he and the Democrats care about us? Fools!

About a bill for medical services: Last September I had to go to an urgent aid center. Here it is February and I finally received a bill from the doctor’s service after the insurance paid their portion. I could not believe one of the charges. It was a charge for $10 for “services provided between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.” It’s hard to believe that they have the nerve to submit that as a charge. It just does not seem right. I have never seen anything like this.

Rose from Hazel Crest

How about Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart for Chicago police superintendent instead of Garry McCarthy?

I read that they have raised $23.5 million to help at-risk kids. Was that for all of the neighborhoods? If they can raise that kind of money then why can’t they raise money to put more police on the street? What is wrong with this picture?

Chicago

I think higher minimum wage means the more we make, the more government takes. They should tax us less but they won’t.

I want to thank Bremen Animal Hospital for the care and compassion exhibited on that horrible Feb. 26th evening when I had to put my Shih Tzu Taffy to sleep. Thank you, Dr. Terry Becker and Linda, for understanding the hard time I had doing what needed to be done, and for your kindness. Thank you, Dr. Roger Hagenberg and Dr. Scott Gallatin, for the years of excellent care you gave Taffy and my Shih Tzu Coco that I had to put to sleep a few years ago. You helped me during a difficult time. I miss them so much.

Orland Park

Seedless watermelon, the Internet and Tom Skilling are three of the best inventions ever. WGN-TV (Channel 9)’s Skilling is a treasure. If you don’t have time to listen to him, or think he talks too much, or don’t understand what he is saying, get an attention span or turn the channel. There are plenty of places where you can get weather in 30 seconds or less.

White males not receiving special treatment? I’m sorry, but what country are you living in? This is the only group who has had full protection under the law since the creation of the United States. Women had to struggle for the right to vote, the right to control their reproductive rights and equal pay under the law, and still fight against glass ceilings in almost every walk of life. People of color have also struggled for most of these rights. White men don’t receive special treatment? Don’t make me laugh.

Bonnie from Flossmoor

Is anyone else fed up with the news media’s unending and constant coverage of the pope’s election. Come on, people! Cover some news that really is important.

Midlothian

Former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson needs to do time along with her husband, former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. If it were the ordinary Jane Q. Public, she would be behind bars along with the other women who have children. Let the relatives take the children or put them in the foster system like they do with the other criminals’ children. There should be no special consideration for either Jackson. They need to be held accountable.

Maureen from Palos Heights

To all you imbeciles using robo calls to invade my privacy: I receive these nuisance calls two, three, four and more times daily. I have bad knees but have to get up and answer my phone. You blockheads should know I wouldn’t buy what you are selling even if it was free. Also, I would never vote for you even if you were the last person on Earth. You are a bunch of lazy good-for-nothings that will never get my attention for more than the two or three seconds it takes to hang up the phone on your disgusting recordings.
