Look out, the Rev. Jesse Jackson. A new pastor is in town taking over your spotlight. The Rev. Corey Brooks is speaking out in high-crime areas and reaching out for assistance from gangbangers.

I’m a Knights of Columbus Council 14553 member who wanted to say, “Great work,” on our last fish bake this Lenten season. The music and delicious food was appreciated by the Knights and their families and many others who attended. The Knights have been busy besides sponsoring the fish bake. They also are to be congratulated for the distribution of thousands of paper products, which were donated. The paper products were delivered to many special needs groups, churches and charitable organizations where they are desperately needed. Thank you to all who volunteered to help and make those events successful.

John commented that President Obama should sequester Air Force One. Really? Obama just returned from what I think was a very successful trip to the Middle East. I don’t understand why some of you refuse to give Obama any credit. He could balance the budget tomorrow, and you would all still be complaining about him. Give it a rest already. You can blame the sequester on the far right wing of the Republican Party.

I often wondered why they build the big discount department stores because their shelves are always empty. They have more bosses walking around with their walkie-talkies doing nothing while the shelves stay empty and very often will be missing the same products for several weeks at a time. I have also on several occasions had cashiers who were busy conversing with other cashiers, even stopping checking out my order to talk. They need to teach their employees what good customer service is.

Nepotism always will exist. Trouble is these people get special favored treatment on the job. That’s unfair to the rest of us.

Regarding Pope Francis’ installation ceremony: I, too, am a Catholic. But with our government’s position on separation between church and state, how does U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski with five other Democrat and four Republican representatives justify attending the installation of Pope Francis? Is this trip being funded on the taxpayers’ dime or out of the attendees’ own pockets? I’m guessing it’s just another political perk.

Some Speak Out commenters think that everybody is against the Link cards and entitlements for the poor. That’s just not true. Some of us are not against poor people if they are really poor. If they legitimately need these Link cards and entitlements, then that’s fine. It’s the phonies and crooks who are misusing these resources that are really killing me. If government can stop those phonies then the programs would be fine.

Singer R. Kelly can live in Trump International Hotel & Tower Chicago because the man wrote “I Believe I Can Fly.”

I have always thought the pastor would control the money of the church and the school principal should control the money of the school. Can someone tell me why the school principal is involved with the finances of the church? Something does not look right here.

Just think about it. Those who sacrifice liberty for security deserve neither. He who would trade liberty for some temporary security deserves neither liberty nor security. He who sacrifices freedom for security deserves neither. People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both. If we restrict liberty to attain security we will lose them both. Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.

I think Chicago Bull Derrick Rose is a wimp. I know U.S. Marines who shattered every bone in their foot. They were told hard casts for 11 months. Guess what. They were out in four months. I think Rose is a totally useless individual who is content with what he’s doing, which is nothing. Either man up or get lost, Derrick. We’ve won without you.

In response to the article “Tinley Park mayoral race heated,” I was amazed to read at the end of the election piece on Mayor Ed Zabrocki and challenger Steve Eberhardt that the would-be mayor is bankrupt. This should have been at the beginning of the story or in the headline. How can this Eberhardt guy think he can ask for our vote to run a multimillion-dollar village when he, a lawyer, can’t stay out of hock?

I was at Ultra Foods recently looking at the turkey, and this kind woman comes up to me and gives me a coupon out of her paper for $3 off. It was one of the nicest things. It really made my day. Thank you so much. I happily used the coupon. Easter blessings to everyone.

I’m over 50, unemployed and believe the newest discrimination is against those who don’t have any college degree. I’m tired of looking online for a job, applying and getting “sorry, you are not qualified” letters. President Obama, what percentage of Americans born here are over 50 and have degrees? I’m tired of hearing of programs for foreigners and money for foreign lands when we have a need here. If I have to work till age 70, how do I do this with no degree, money or job? Let’s get the employers to hire people and train them. Stop discriminating.
