It’s time the Chicago Cubs found a real closer. I think the only thing pitcher Carlos Marmol has gained is weight.

Orland Hills

Hey, all you local politicians that just got elected, here is your chance to step up and do the right thing. Let the southwest ’burbs set an example. Let’s see how many towns, villages and townships can vote to eliminate the pensions for part-time mayors, trustees and alderman. Let’s make this a top priority. Who is going to be first? Let’s step up and do the right thing.

Joe from Alsip

All beliefs in America deserve respect. It’s a free country. If I want to say, “blessed Yule,” and not “merry Christmas,” or if I am gay and wanting to marry, so be it. The fact is, no one is stopping you from believing in God or from marrying the opposite sex and having a bunch of kids, right? There is no redefinition of marriage. I respect you enough to let you live your life, and I expect the same.

CC from Joliet

I find it very interesting that in March former Chicago Bull Dennis Rodman was in communist and enemy North Korea. He was laughing it up with this so-called president Kim Jong Un and now North Korea is acting up like Dennis used to on the basketball court in order to get his way. Was the character Dennis the Menace over there talking trash about his own country to make Kim act this way?

Regarding the woman who says she has been taking care of herself since she was 14 years old: In the next sentence, she says she has a Link card. Guess what. The taxpayers are still taking care of you. Do you think money appears like magic? So many people abuse the system. I think America is the land of the lazy.

Willow Springs

Get rid of the tax loopholes for corporations that ship jobs overseas. Cut the pay of the U.S. representatives and senators. They get enough from the lobbyists.

If God would have made Adam and Albert or Eve and Evelyn, then none of us would be here right now. The pro-gay marriage people should think about that.

Joe from Lemont

They keep talking about closing schools and now having to pay for preschool. Where do our property taxes go? Where is the money from the lottery? I think the people ought to get together and audit them. Are they hiding this money on us? The people should get together and file a class-action lawsuit against them.

I think I’ve figured it out. Have multiple children by multiple men and don’t worry about doing drugs while you’re at it. Then you can get money from the state of Illinois.

I know people mean well but I think sometimes they let emotions cloud their logic. Criminals don’t buy bullets legally. Therefore, I think ammunition coding would never be traced to them. Furthermore, they could simply remove identifiers or use reloaded (homemade) ammunition. A better idea would be to allow concealed carry in Illinois. If just one of the Lane Bryant victims in Tinley Park were trained in firearms and had a concealed weapon, maybe they would be alive now and the bad guy would be dead. Would that not have been the best outcome?

Crestwood

If I was the commander in chief of the United States, the first thing I would do is to deflate the tires and empty the oil out of the engine on Air Force One. At $180,000 per hour, that is a disgrace. Talk about a waste of taxpayers’ money. Maybe they can buy one of Southwest Airlines’ planes and save millions and million per month.

They want tourists to come to Chicago and stay in our hotels. Now they want to put a big tax on parking. That will drive people away from Chicago. This is ridiculous. The next thing you know they will try to tax us on air. The Chicago City Council is completely out of hand. Every time you turn around they want to tax you.

I have nothing against same-sex marriage, but I do have something to say about showing affection and kissing each other in public. It makes my skin crawl. They don’t have to put it all in our faces.

The Link card police make me feel un-American. I use the card for my 49-year-old disabled son. You give food to other countries yet you want your fellow Americans to go hungry? Shame on you for judging everyone who uses the Link card as lazy or crooked.

Chicago Ridge

They keep telling us that the economy is getting better. The only problem is they can’t tell us for whom or where the economy is getting better.

We have a war on drugs and a war on cancer. Why not a war on corruption? We can start with the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate.

A Speak Out commenter said federal employees who are delinquent on taxes should be fired. The commenter goes on to say that federal workers are no different than us. Does that mean anyone who is delinquent on their taxes should be fired, or are we talking about a different difference?

Hickory Hills

Two thumbs up for film critic Roger Ebert’s wife, Chaz. She stood by her husband through thick and thin.

I think newspapers should post the names of everybody from the Republican Party and Democrat Party who are against the gun control bill. Then people will know come election time who they should vote for. People should be aware of this. These politicians have to make a stand to make sure these children don’t get killed anymore. Let’s do the right thing.
