Wow on the $500 million to renovate the rotting Wrigley Field. I suppose that leaves no money to buy quality players, which would’ve been logical.

Terry from Mount Greenwood

Every time I read another comment from the Link Card police I want to cry or yell. The lack of compassion and knowledge is obvious. My husband and I have been married over 40 years. We have three grown children. He worked most of the last 45 years in spite of a heart attack and multiple health issues. Now we are in a time of disability and living on a small income. Our family gets $150 in Link card. Every time I have to use that card I want to crawl under a rug. Walk a mile in our shoes.

I chose abstinence, got a reputation of being lesbian and got tormented. The school turned a blind eye.

Illinois collected taxes in fiscal 2012 of $36.44 billion, which was part of the record $794.6 billion that America’s states collected in taxes for the year. Where did it all go? Is anyone else curious?

Pat from Monee

Be careful what you wish for. You might just get it. Alsip did. Alsip got another four years of Patrick Kitching as mayor. What were you thinking, Alsip?

Beverly from Alsip

I would like someone from the national, state or local government to address the true amount of free money a family of four receives on welfare in the United States including free food, housing, health care, schooling, lunches, books, cellular phones and more. I’ve heard that it adds up to thousands of dollars for a family of four. Where is the incentive to obtain a job? It wouldn’t be so bad if there was some gratitude instead of a sense of entitlement to even more.

It amazes me how some people complain about funding for state and local projects without doing any homework. Let me put this in simple form. The state of Illinois has many checking accounts. The monies from one, by law, cannot be transferred to another account. For example, the tax we pay on a gallon of gasoline goes into a motor fuel tax account. That money can only be spent on roads, bridges, etc., It cannot be used to pay for pensions and other things. The state can be “broke” and still have millions in other accounts earmarked for certain expenses. Do your homework.

Since texting while driving is a crime, if another driver does not report a driver who is texting, is the driver an accessory to a crime? Could the non-texting driver be arrested for not reporting the texting driver? Are we supposed to call the police when we see someone texting? If so, I will be calling the police 30 or 40 times a day.

I wish Seton Academy would acknowledge that they were wrong in the way they handled the Class 2A state championship boys basketball game. The Illinois High School Association was concerned by head coach Brandon Thomas’ profanity and tirade. Sanctions are sanctions. If there were racial slurs by the other team from Harrisburg High School, then that is unfortunate and not right but things happen. As a Catholic, you move on. I wish those at Seton Academy would drive to wherever they have to drive to and pick up the second-place IHSA basketball trophy.

Jim from Evergreen Park

Here we go again in Crook County. They made Stanley Moore the replacement for former Cook County Commissioner William Beavers. Moore just paid a $3,000 ethics fine. It’s terrible. I think these Democrats are the most corrupt individuals. They just keep putting in their buddies. We taxpayers will never get ahead.

Oak Forest

Free public education does not include preschool. I am not aware of any suburban school district that provides free preschool for its residents except for early childhood programs for special needs children. Why do some Chicago residents feel they are entitled to free preschool? Let them pay.

The North Koreans have threatened the United States with missile attacks. Does the National Rifle Association suggest that we give nuclear missiles to every country in the world?

Crete

A girl I work with has a 23-year-old cousin with five kids and another on the way. She’s never worked, been married or been supported by the babies’ fathers. Her kids are usually dirty, ignorant and act like animals. This is your tax money at work. It needs to stop.

Knives restricted? The Transportation Security Administration said we can carry knives on planes.

I’m curious what a recent writer meant by calling water polo a useless sport. How are you defining useless? Water polo requires many minutes of constant movement in deep water, endurance, stamina, ability to swim, and desire. The cream rises to the top in all sports that our youth participate in.

Homer Glen

On Easter, young thugs caused a mob scene in downtown Chicago. The picture of their reactions was enough to make my stomach turn. Where were their parents? I hope they had to pay at least $500 for their release or, better still, serve 30 days in the Cook County Jail.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Obamacare is a new tax. I think the full brunt of this tax will be felt later this year and in 2014.

The food and staff at Lone Star Steakhouse in Crestwood are exceptional. I have had the opportunity to have the bartender Sam, the server Tim and the manager Brian assist in whatever help was necessary. They are certainly to be complimented. All of the staff will pick up dirty dishes. What a team! They get five stars in my book.
