How cute were the Mokena Community Park District preschoolers who participated in the groundbreaking ceremony? Talk about adorable! I’m glad to see some good news for a change.
We could learn from Boston residents. They cooperated with police and helped with the manhunt for the marathon bombing suspect. When the criminal was caught, residents lined the streets and applauded the police with shouts of “Good job!” In Chicago we seem to blame police for our citizens’ horrific behavior. I think a cop on every corner will not change anything.
Can someone please tell me why more and more people find it so hard to use their turn signals? The law states that we must use them and you can get a ticket for failure to signal lane changes or turns. It is also very rude not to let those behind you know what you are planning to do.
Many experts are saying we are working on improving the housing industry. It seems simple to me. Bring back our jobs that have been turned over to China, Bangladesh, etc. When Americans have jobs, they have money to pay the mortgage. No good-paying jobs with no living wages means no money to live a life that includes a mortgage.
One in six Americans struggles with hunger. Why does President Obama support foreign aid?
It’s seriously disturbing how some believe marriage equality will destroy the human race. Don’t act like homosexuality is some experimental idea. It has existed as long as humanity itself. Forbidding equality has had people killed. Your irrational fear of homosexual sex has always happened and will continue, whether it’s legal or not. Marriage isn’t about the sex; it’s about love. Your arguments are the like the ones used against black people, and you’re on the wrong side of history.
I can’t say enough about our new Jewel-Osco in Palos Heights. The store is beautiful and has wonderful appointments throughout — a lovely floral department, a luscious produce area, an extensive deli and bakery section, well-lit freezer and cooler sections, a large wine selection and a wide variety of grocery items. The staff and manager are helpful and eager to please.
Here’s another comment about water polo. The big discussion is whether it’s useless or useful. What sport is actually useful? Sports are entertaining to spectators and useful to participants. Therefore, water polo is very beneficial to the participant because of the skills, endurance and stamina needed to perform. Why would anyone call it “useless” when high school girls and boys participate after school hours to perform for their own enjoyment and also for their parents and other spectators?

I was operated on due to breast cancer 31 years ago. I prayed and asked God to help me to live to raise my four children because no stepmother would love my children like I do. I’m still alive now, walking around and praising God. Miracles do happen.

Tinley Park gave its residents several warnings about the helicopter and “explosion” maneuvers planned at the former mental health center grounds. Did anyone mention that they would go on until early morning? A nap, in preparation for a sleepless night, would have been in order. Kaboom!
Hats off to columnist Donna Vickroy who wrote the article about giving gang members a future. It was very good and constructive reading. These young men need something to do other than gangbanging. The Chicago area has people who can help this program.

I’m 64. About five years ago I took a job that paid less than I was used to because it was the only one I could get. Within eight months I was getting $10 an hour more, not by demanding more money but by doing my job well.
My wife and I don’t have a dog. It isn’t often we see a driver with a dog. Every day I see people on the telephone, eating, drinking and reading while driving. I wonder if those complaining are one of them. They wouldn’t do any of that while taking a driving test.

Regarding disposal of electronics, there are several facilities that accept these devices.Try your local thrift stores, Goodwill, the Salvation Army and most of all maybe local churches. These are the places where people go to get help. Families in desperate need for things don’t worry about up-to-date items. They go to these places because they just need to have something at the moment.

You can send this Speak Out to the Chicago aldermen. My son is 19 years old. Yes, he is a smoker but he is also overseas defending his country, the United States. Are you going to tell me that he should be 21 years old to smoke? Where are your brains?
The recent explosions at a fertilizer plant in Texas should be an eye-opener. Texas Gov. Rick Perry is running around pulling businesses out of other states, but you have to ask yourself whose best interests is he really representing? Is he representing businesses’ interests? What about his citizens’ best interests? Are his citizens safe when they go to work? Rick Perry has a very narrow view of what his job his. Regulations are needed to keep people safe.
