Joe South's song "Walk a Mile in My Shoes" urges people to see things from a different point of view than just their own. | File photo

I don’t get a $150 Link card. I struggle to buy food, and I work a lot. Walk a mile in our shoes. When there is no money, we do not eat.
This is a response to the jealous Chicago White Sox fan who wants Chicago Cubs fans to avoid the lack of parking, high ticket prices and bad baseball and come over to U.S. Cellular Field, where there “are plenty of seats.” Of course there are plenty of seats because I think Sox fans are not as loyal as Cub fans. It’s no wonder you guys will always be No. 2 in this town.
Congratulations to Phil Kadner on his being named 2013 Illinois Journalist of the Year by Northern Illinois University and the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association. This is a well-deserved award for a columnist who always writes the truth, no matter how painful it may be. He is a true watchdog for the people in the Chicago Southland. Kudos to you, Phil. Keep up the good work.

Hey, U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, state Rep. Jack Franks, U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, state Rep. Ed Sullivan, et al., you better start acting like representatives. You were elected to do the bidding of the people, not vote what you think. None of you should go into a session without poll numbers obtained from your constituents. If you can’t do that to represent us, we’ll vote you out. Get smart, voters. We, not the pols, hold the strings.
I think the program to help homeowners stay in their homes called Illinois Hardest Hit is a wonderful program. For those who are against any help from the government, I’m sure you will not label this a welfare program. Or would you?
I have been voting for roughly 50 years. During that time Illinois has been a state controlled by the Democrats. When looking at the state of this state, I have to ask: Would anyone out there remind me as to how evil the Republican Party is?
I find it ironic that the person complaining about extreme environmentalists lives in Crestwood, the town where people were served poisoned water for years.
If somebody is looking for a place to donate unused medical supplies then some of them can be taken to the front door of Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park and put into something called Lina’s Care Closet. Items are cleaned and people can borrow them. The senior center of Evergreen Park has a room for donations also. Both of those places would be happy to take equipment.
I would like to have the newspapers list all the gun shootings by day or week. This way the people can see what is really going on. There are far too many that no one knows about, and more to come when everyone is able to carry a concealed weapon. There are too many hotheaded people out there.

I wonder how our Founding Fathers would feel about this generation of Americans.Would they laugh at our stupidity or be angry over having their words being so misconstrued? I do not think when they wrote about being able to bear arms they were talking about automatic weapons that can shoot 30 bullets in 10 seconds. I doubt that when they called for freedom of speech they were talking about an Internet site that shows how to build a bomb.

If you would like to go to Texas for a job, be prepared to work in industries that I think are rarely inspected for safety violations. The recent tragedy in Texas that killed so many is a prime example of money over safety. The American people saw that mind-set in Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s ridiculous presidential aspirations. Illinois is not perfect, but I’ll stay here.

I’m an apathetic atheist who wants to know if anyone else is tired of Jeff from Orland Hills and the other “intellectual” atheists. We get it, guys. You don’t believe in God or any higher power. You guys think you’re edgy and cool by trying to belittle and degrade believers with your arrogant and rude quips. I think you’re not going to break anyone’s faith. It’s something they must see on their own.
In March I was on a cruise ship for two weeks. It had limited television but did carry MSNBC and Fox News. Until then I felt news media was somewhat bias but basically covered all story sides. No longer. From what I saw, MSNBC could not cheer loud enough for any liberal stances and Fox was a 100 percent conservative view. It’s no wonder that the United States is in such a stalemate. They push only liberal or conservative views.

Here is a solution for Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Start taxing the mothers of the gangbangers. Force them to do community service. All they seem to be doing is living off of the government and creating parasites.
The time has come to stop the horrific and unrealistic movies and push real life through educated and true story lines focusing on careers and good family life. That is where the good pay really is and the true way to go. The world is missing this.
The gasoline prices are so disgusting. Three weeks ago I paid $3.60 per gallon. Recently it was $4.12 per gallon. The price went up 52 cents in three weeks. All the while we have President Obama taking Air Force One around for $180,000 per hour. What a disgraceful country America is! It’s take, take, take.
