I don’t blame Texas Gov. Rick Perry for trying to lure Illinois businesses to Texas. Illinois is in such big financial trouble because of greedy politicians. I would not open a business in Illinois now.
The Bloom High School National Honor Society’s first annual Jeff Woodham and Abrahan Cruz 5K Run/Walk was a very successful, orderly and well-maintained event with no disruptions. It was held April 27. Residents, village officials and parents should continue to encourage our young people in doing positive events in our neighborhoods and communities. Teaming up with other groups and organizations always makes a bigger impact in our busy world.
I would like to know why gasoline prices jumped 50 cents within six days recently. When you ask employees at the gas station why, they say we don’t control the prices. If gas goes up that much I think, as a consumer, we should have the right to know why when oil companies keep making record profits. It seems whenever an oil company has a problem it goes right to the consumer. Maybe the people we call lawmakers should start listening to the people instead of the corporations.

Methinks Grandma or Grandpa is acting just a little bit defensive about smoking cigarettes around her or his grandchildren. Are you feeling guilty about exposing your precious ones to proven cancer-causing chemicals? Comparing the danger to air fresheners? I do not spray air fresheners in the presence of my grandchildren, and I certainly would never smoke anywhere near them if I smoked. I saw the light over 30 years ago and hope you will too.
I think the government program to help homeowners isn’t welfare. It’s a onetime shot of help. That isn’t free. Welfare is an ongoing free ride for parasites who refuse to be productive members of society.
In reply to Mary from Steger’s question about how our Founding Fathers would feel about this generation and their apparent love for assault weapons, that was exactly the intent of our Founding Fathers and the Second Amendment. The idea of a well-armed citizenry was not to ward off highwaymen and Native Americans but a tyrannical government run wild. A well-armed citizenry was to be as equipped as the military in fear of the government using the military against the people. Remember, the government was created by “we the people.”

In response to a recent comment from the Chicago Cubs fan, yes, I am very happy to be No. 2 in this town. At least we have had a World Series in the last 100 years. Our stadium is not always full but it is not falling apart. By the way, both teams stink this year.
To the commenter from Crestwood who has no problem with the S.S. Badger dumping toxic coal ash in our drinking water (Lake Michigan) and says environmental extremists need to get a life: I suppose you wouldn’t mind if the coal ash was dumped in your back yard since you have no problem with it. I think what was commonly done 50 years ago is no longer acceptable.
Whenever a tragedy occurs, Jeff from Orland Hills or other atheists are quick to conclude that an intervention from God wasn’t possible because he doesn’t exist. If that were true then atheists wouldn’t exist either. And if there is a God who controlled our free will, there wouldn’t be any atheists either. Which way would you atheists like it?

When I was a little girl, when we heard “God Bless America” sung by Kate Smith we all had tears in our eyes. How do we justify the monies going to other countries when our troops who have given limbs or lives are coming back with nothing to look forward to? Their families should be taken care of with housing, food and education without question.
Patti from Blue Island
I think that someone threatening to “out” me because I didn’t vote is a form of communism.
To the individual questioning the usefulness of water polo: Watch a Lockport Township or Sandburg high school water polo match. It’s intense and grueling and will be the most exciting nonstop action you’ve seen. The kids love the game. They work out for hours daily, they get good grades, they work as a team, and they have no time to get into trouble.
I saw on the news where people were marching and carrying signs that we should pass new immigration laws so we don’t split up those who are in America illegally from their children. I think we should just use our present immigration laws and deport these people. They can take their children with them.
Thank God for the never-ending love and help from grandparents. Grandparents deserve a million thanks for all they do for their children and grandchildren. To all you grandmas out there who baby-sit: You are the best. How selfless you are to pour your heart and soul into giving your time to others.
Now that the suburban elections are all over lets take all the signs down. It’s over, go away.

Regarding two recent questions in Speak Out: Rolling Stones tickets are expensive because the public will pay. I would’ve loved to see the band one more time but I’m not stupid. As to who to call to report an 8-year-old boy who is always left alone, call the police.
