Kudos to Hannah Jarman for her academic excellence at Shepard High School. You will inspire many people now and in the near future. Way to go, Hannah!
On May 6 I brought my daughter to the emergency Care Station in Oak Lawn near Oak Park Avenue. From the moment we walked through the door — from the receptionist, the nurses and the doctor — everything was done in a very professional but caring manner. My daughter was prescribed medications, and Jay at the Xpress Pharmacy took wonderful care of us. This experience turned out to be pleasant and, as we all know, it could have been disastrous. Thanks again, team. You are to be commended.

I wonder if Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago Cubs owner Tom Ricketts have ever met for lunch to share in a lively discussion of the long-term rooftop and parking meter deals they inherited and debate over who got the lousiest deal.
On behalf of all of us at Milex in Oak Forest, thank you, Dennis, for your comments. We owe our success to our very loyal customers that have supported us for the past 36 years and counting. We’ve watched your kids go from car seats to drivers with their own kids.
Another name for the GOP instead of Grand Old Party: God’s Own Party, or so they think.
Given all we know about the serious damage football inflicts on the human body, should parents allow their sons to participate in that sport?

What is going on with gasoline prices? On one day, a certain gas station on LaGrange Road in Frankfort had the posted gasoline price for a gallon of regular at $3.78. The next morning, the price was $3.67 a gallon. Later that day, it was $3.85 a gallon. This is absolute manipulation and someone in public service needs to address this.

It seems certain parties are able to be excluded from Obamacare. If you are going to have a ruling where everybody has to have health insurance, then it should be everybody. You can’t pick and choose who you decide to exclude. Maybe I don’t go to doctors. Maybe I do holistic healing. I’m not going to pay for health insurance because that’s my belief.
This is regarding the case of the three girls in Cleveland who were kidnapped and kept prisoners for 10 years. How many raises did the police union demand because their jobs are so dangerous? How many times did they do a poor job when reports were made of strange happenings at that house?
Crook County will not tell me who I can and cannot rent to. I own the building. Therefore, I have the last right of rental, and they cannot tell me differently.
What to get mom for Mother’s Day? You can get her flowers, candy or clothing. Gift cards cover most everything. A service like house cleaning or landscaping would be nice. A lunch or dinner with the family has worked before. A home-cooked meal by you, not mom, is getting closer. All you need is love, and not just on Mother’s Day but every day. Say it and show it. Things last for a day but love lasts forever and the water doesn’t have to be changed. With gratitude to all of the mothers in the Southland, happy Mother’s Day.

Former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife, former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson, should get what they deserve. They both actually committed crimes that betrayed the public trust. They stole $750,000 from campaign funds and used the money frivolously for their personal spending sprees. They both need to go to jail.

I understand diversity makes America strong, but does the president need to call up athletes who declare their homosexuality and congratulate them? President Obama calling NBA player Jason Collins brings to mind political polarization and sorrow for all those parents trying to raise their children without homosexuality being thrown in their faces.

No, Bob from Mount Greenwood, I don’t find it strange that it took longer to identify the Boston bombers than the 9/11 terrorists. The terrorists were found from the passenger lists of four airplanes. The Boston bombers had to be found in a large city from only a few visual clues.
I think everyone in prison with a “life without parole” sentence should be given the choice of death by lethal injection. I think many would take death over prison. Put the money saved in schools. Make college affordable to all.
It is always very heartwarming to hear about various organizations that hold fundraisers to research cancer. For years and years, billions of dollars have been raised for cancer research. Does anyone check on that? Does anyone give an accounting of where we are with cancer research? Where and how is the money spent? If we can put a man on the moon and have space probes then we should be pretty close to a cancer cure, if not already there.
Illinois lawmakers are considering a statewide tanning bed ban for people younger than 18 years old yet it’s OK to give a 15-year-old girl the morning-after pill. These Illinois legislators need to get out of our lives and let parents handle their own children.
