President Richard Nixon had his Watergate. President Obama now has his Benghazi.

Philip from Oak Lawn

Thank you, U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk, for coming up with your proposal to try to put a stop to the gangs in Chicago by arresting them. It’s unreal that with the use of all this modern and high-tech knowledge we can’t put a stop to all of the violence. It’s more than meets the eye. Just follow the money.

I find it funny how people like me, who don’t believe in gay marriage, or allowing people to live off of a Link card are always considered religious or conservative. I am neither. I’m not religious and consider myself a moderate. While people may be born gay that, in itself, doesn’t make it normal. Every day babies are born with birth defects. I’m sure that no one would consider missing limbs, defective hearts, missing brains or any other birth defect a normal, good thing.

There will always be an underclass in Cook County and Chicago thanks to the Democratic Party. They seek out the people who are low-educated, unemployed and from dysfunctional families and give them everything. The problem is that all these people can think about is: “The Democrats gave us that and they are taking care of us.” Consequently, you’ll have an underclass that will remain forever.

I live in an area in Tinley Park where everyone decided to pick one side of the outside of their house as their garbage and junk side. I work hard to make sure none of these items are seen from the outside of my house. Garbage cans are kept in the garage (and not put out until garbage pickup day), unused lawn furniture is either thrown away or kept in the basement, and trash is disposed of. Yet, my view from my windows gives me the view of everyone’s junk side. Please clean up your junk side of your houses.

Rick from Evergreen Park complained about guys kissing on television while he ate dinner. Hey, Rick, come over to our house and you can have a race with my mother to see who can change channels or hit the mute button when the erectile dysfunction commercials come on. We dine at 5 p.m.

Regarding Poppy Days: Where are those poppies made — America or China? Think about it.

Donna from Alsip

When the people who are used to living on government giveaways outnumber the people who are willing to work and prosper for a living, then the United States is doomed. Once they are on these freebies, they don’t want to get off of them.

I don’t think we have to worry about England taking over. I think we have to think about Mexico taking over.

Don from Chicago

Park Forest is so fortunate to have such a great library and staff, but some people think the conference room table is for changing their kid’s diaper. The rest room provides a changing table. Please start using the changing table.

I know five women who are well into their 90s who lived with smokers all their lives and even had children who smoked at home. They are all living fine with no respiratory problems. I also raised two cats who lived more than 20 years each while I was a smoker. People kept telling me that the cats would die young due to respiratory problems. That didn’t happen. We all know smoking is harmful to the person who is smoking. I understand that, but this whole hullabaloo about secondhand smoke is way overrated.

It seems like Chicago has the highest gasoline prices. The reason given is it’s because of the summer blend. What does that mean? This all seems like a shell game.

It’s a darn shame that children can’t walk from one school to another without being afraid. It’s terrible to hear statements like children from one side of town do not get along with others from the other side. These kids are being raised by a bunch of knuckleheads. If confronted, these are the same parents who would say that their child is being picked on or is a good kid.

I just read the story about the Robbins man charged in a beating death. It stated in the article that he had 16 previous arrests including battery. Why is this man walking around? What is wrong with our judicial system? Somebody who had 16 arrests is still out there walking around?

I think the Lewis University campus is absolutely beautiful this spring. The tulips and flowering trees are gorgeous.

BJ from Frankfort, the Boston police were not hunting one lone teen involved in the marathon bombing. They were hunting down a despicable, cowardly, mass-murdering terrorist with zero conscience and, in doing so, likely saved additional lives. Come down from your ivory tower once in a while and soak up some reality.

Tony from Frankfort

I get it. There are some people — no matter what anyone has to say about God, miracles or believing in a higher deity — that just don’t believe. Fine. That is their opinion but please stop putting those of us who believe down, and we should do the same. For those of us who do believe, remember that everyone is entitled to their opinion. We should just keep spreading God’s love in other ways because it is all around us.
