Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is like a kid in a candy shop when it comes to tax money.

Tinley Park

Thank you to the good Samaritan who found my dog in Hickory Hills. My dog is my life. I can’t believe that he got away. I am so grateful that you found him. Bless you and thank you so much.

Mark from Hickory Hills

There is an adage in the casino industry that states the only types of people who are walking out of casinos are liars and losers. The SouthtownStar article titled “The two sides of gambling” profiles each of these types of people.

Joe from Evergreen Park

The LaGrange Road reconstruction will start this summer? I thought it has been going on for the past five summers. I’m glad they are doing the reconstruction, but I can’t believe those businesses there are still in business. I haven’t been down LaGrange Road or 143rd Street since they started construction. It is a mess.

Congratulations to the Democratic Party in Illinois. We have high taxes, high gasoline prices, a high murder rate and a high rate of politicians going to prison in the United States of America. We also have the lowest bond rating in the United States of America. Nice going, you dynamic Democrats! You are also destroying Chicago at the fastest speed.

If you weren’t awed by the beauty of the recent weather, you need to take a moment and slow your life down. The cloud formations were stunning. It was also dangerous. I’m praying for all those affected negatively.

Ken from Crete

U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk’s plan to crack down on gang members may be ridiculous but all he’s trying to do is help. Instead of berating Kirk by calling him an elitist white boy, why doesn’t U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush do something? Rush hasn’t done a thing.

Bob from Oak Forest

Where are all of the protesters from the 1960s and 1970s? We have soldiers dying in foreign wars, our government is spying on and harassing citizens, the Internal Revenue Service is investigating people and the freedom of press is getting stepped on. Where are all the protesters? These kinds of things should be right up their alley.

I think Chicago Ald. Ed Burke is worse than gangster Al Capone ever was. I read the article titled “Burke’s Law: Chicago alderman cashes in thanks to tax limit he helped enact.” Can’t someone keep track of what these politicians are pulling? These guys are messing with the regular guy, passing laws that benefit themselves and pocketing millions. We need a U.S. attorney to set up camp here and get all of these thieves out of office.

It was nice to read something positive that a teenager was doing. The article about the Chick Evans Scholar Michael Buche shows a person who worked hard to earn a scholarship. It’s nice to see something like this as opposed to seeing something about teenagers shooting each other and things like that.

Blue Island

Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan has such a stronghold on Illinois politicians that I think they are afraid to go against him. So why should we waste our time voting for any one of them if all they can do is follow the leader?

The U.S. House of Representative has full power of investigation and subpoena. If there is any scandal or any lawbreaking within President Obama’s administration, then the Republicans — who are the majority in the U.S. House — have the means to get to the bottom of it. The fact that they haven’t means that there are no scandals.

Oak Lawn

Whenever one of your elders complains about the state of our society or how things are going downhill, just remember who taught us to be this way.

So the parents don’t want the schools closed because their kids will have to walk through bad neighborhoods to get to their new school. How about closing the schools in the bad neighborhoods and letting those kids walk to new schools?

More states are voting yes for gay marriage. I can only hope Illinois isn’t going to lag much longer for the Midwest. That would be sad. But now that people are realizing that there are constitutional protections for religious folks that won’t allow gay marriages inside of their churches, we can move forward with equality. Maybe it’ll give the multi-faith churches more visitors and open the door for more ministers for other faiths, and we can all mind our own business and coexist.

CC from Joliet

I hope former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. took his medication before he heard about the third airport coming to light again. For years, this was his baby. They told him to forget about it because it would never happen. Now they’re saying it’s a strong possibility.

The only thing worse than someone pushing their beliefs on you is someone pushing their nonbeliefs on you.

I don’t see why we don’t have washrooms in some parks. I saw a grandma pull a tot’s pants down to let her potty in front of everyone. The boy soon followed. This also teaches children a public no-no that they can later go to jail for.

Regarding Phil Kadner’s column “Do you want security or freedom?”: Yes, Phil, our worst nightmares have come true. The Brown Shirts have arrived.
