Father’s Day is coming up on June 16. Lots of people go all out for Mother’s Day, but sometimes dads don’t get the same treatment. Make your dad’s day something to remember.
On a recent Saturday at Holy Ghost Catholic Parish in South Holland at the 4:30 p.m. Mass, one of the usher’s act of kindness was most gallant as well as surprising. During the pouring rain, he stepped out in his bright red blazer and umbrella to my car to keep me from getting wet. This helped to make my visit most memorable. He went more than the extra mile to assist me. Thanks to him so very much for his kindness and unselfish act. It was such a blessing.

What is going on with these gasoline prices? I went to Michigan City, Ind., and it was $3.64 a gallon. I go to Las Vegas and it was $3.32 a gallon. Just get out of the Chicago area and the price is at least 50 cents cheaper in some places. So instead of complaining, next time you should think when you vote.
I think U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann deciding not to run for re-election in 2014 is a very good thing for the Republican Party and, therefore, for America. As a Democrat I crave a viable, non-extreme Republican Party. If the Republicans continue to be the “stupid party,” as Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal said, they will go away, and one viable party is not good for the country.
Here’s a message from the Link card police. Another way people are abusing and cheating the system is I’ve noticed people buying a huge amount of things at the store with Link cards at a good price, Then they go back to their restaurant or business and charge more and make a profit. This is also abuse.
So they want to keep Roseland Community Hospital open. Instead of demanding they stay open, why not take up a collection to help defray the expenses? When I lived in Roseland, my doctor — whose office was in the neighborhood — was a practicing physician there. I had surgery and my son was born and had surgery there also. I had no insurance at that time, but I found a way to pay my bills. I had no time for demand-strating . Become a responsible person and maybe your problems will disappear.
Big Brother knows who is calling whom, when and from where so that Big Brother can protect us. Big Brother will protect us from terrorists. Big Brother will protect us from hackers. But who will protect us from Big Brother?
Regarding biracial marriage: There are so many problems in the world that people could solve: war, starvation, income inequality, climate change, etc., and some people are worried because some parents don’t have matching skin colors. Really? How crazy does that sound?
I’m sorry U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush is so upset with U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk’s plan to arrest the Gangster Disciples in Chicago. The Gangster Disciples don’t want a regular job, as Rush suggests giving them, any more than gangster Al Capone and his boys did in that day. This violence has gotten out of control. Maybe if Rush was a victim of these activities he would change his tune.

I agree with the recent comments made that all immigrants should learn, and embrace, the laws, customs, religion and language of Americans already here. My people were here thousands of years before the Europeans came with their agenda of conquest, torture and murder of my fellow Native Americans. America, they should have loved it or left it.
Poor little Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan was a no-show for a vital pension reform meeting. Aw! Is Mikey pouting because he didn’t get his way? He’s pathetic and should resign. He is not doing his job.
Some people moved out of Chicago and into Oak Lawn because they didn’t want to deal with the Chicago politics, corruption or police department. I hope Oak Lawn stays as Oak Lawn is and never decides to ever mimic anything Chicago has. This is one of the reasons why the residents are still there. Let’s stand alone and stay strong.
Pete from Oak Lawn
I agree with the June 9 newspaper article about cyclists having their rights too. However, there are some roads they choose to drive on where there is no path for them. In Monee on Ridgeland Avenue there is a hilly path that to me is a death trap. You have a do-or-die situation. Why can’t they enforce a law for everyone’s safety? Cyclists have to stay on a bike path. I will be glad to abide by the law that I have to provide for their safety.
There are still honest people in this world. Thank you to the wonderful woman who turned in my daughter’s credit card to the PNC Bank when she left it at the gasoline station in Palos Hills. You are a good person.
I’m concerned about everybody pushing gun control but nobody doing anything about these punks out there pushing drugs on young kids. Something needs to be done about the drug pushers.

To the Speak Out commenter who asked why are there no good stores coming to Lincoln Mall in Matteson and who said they are sick and tired of driving to Orland Park Place and River Oaks Center in Calumet City: Well, I wonder why. Do you remember Dixie Square Mall in Harvey?
