Chicago sightseeing boats are a common sight on the Chicago River when the weather is warm. | File photo

One of my favorite things when walking in downtown Chicago is seeing all the boats sailing along the Chicago River. I hope to get on one of those boats sooner than later.
Thank you for the refreshing article by Cheryl Dangel Bartolini about Bremen High School grad Jerosem Esparza honoring his late father, Victor. Jerosem’s volunteer work to clean up litter in Harvey and Posen is inspirational, and he is demonstrating leadership, organization, responsibility, etc. Every community can benefit from a project like this. Litter doesn’t accumulate all by itself. We are all responsible for proper garbage disposal. This is a great idea to teach young people to take pride in their community and give them something productive to do, especially in the summer.
I feel sorry for all Illinois union members. They have been believing their Democratic union leaders for more than 50 years. These people are dumb if they think that anything is going to change by continuing to vote for Democrats.

After waiting 25 minutes to check out at a large discount department store in Burbank I decided never to shop there again. The elderly cashier was doing her best, but they need to hire more people. And yet, there were employees with phones not helping her out.

We are happy to see U.S. Rep. Robin Kelly is working hard to follow through with the south suburban airport. State Sen. Michael Hastings has moved an office into our community. Our community would really like to see the both of them working together to get our Lincoln Mall up and running to bring in stores so our community can actually shop in and build our community. We need our Lincoln Mall back.
I’ve been watching the TV show “Chicago Fire.” I think that the show does not really depict how really rough it is when there is a fire, but the show makes me realize how much appreciation I have to give to everyone who puts on that uniform. That same appreciation goes out to the police department personnel also. I want to sincerely thank you all for risking your life in order to save mine when that alarm goes off or when that 911 call comes in.

A Speak Out commenter questioned why one driver would slow down instead of changing lanes when being tailgated by another car. Obviously the driver who slowed down is ignorant and wants the tailgater to be the one that changes lanes.

If you are out of a job and receive assistance from the state of Illinois and/or a Link card, you should be required to do some type of community work or some type of maintenance work in exchange.
President Nixon was ahead of his time. If the Watergate scandal had happened now, I think all he would have gotten is a slap on the wrist and he would still be president.
Watching all of the protests about the Chicago Public Schools closings, one has to ask: Where was all of this parental involvement before?
I’d like to give a shout-out to La Crepe Bistro in Homer Glen. It’s a great new restaurant. You should try some fabulous French food. It’s something different that we needed in this area. It’s a change from franchise food.
Chicago should hire the Hells Angels to protect our streets. I’d bet we wouldn’t have any crime at all in Chicago.
Why does it seem like all the politicians that support the Southland airport don’t and won’t live anywhere near it? They have made our lives a living hell for decades. Now they want to just take property away from land owners. I thought we lived in the United States where this doesn’t happen.

I know that we are not in paradise. The only Satan out there is man himself. Since the Big Bang and the haphazard creation of life-forms, man has been a warlike killing machine and God always seems to be on both sides. Do some research. God has marched into battle on both sides, no matter what religion or beliefs. Once again, God is just an excuse for the evils and heartaches of mankind. You could pray to a potato and get the same results.
Maybe I haven’t been paying much attention, but in the past few years I have heard so much about the rights of Americans, especially the First, Second and Fourth amendments. It’s a good thing that we are reading the Constitution. The bad thing is that some of us are interpreting the laws the way we want to.
I’m a 25-year defense attorney who has this message for gang members: You consider the gang your true family yet when you’re arrested I never have seen a fellow member bail you out or hire you a lawyer. I have seen your blood family do this and try to help you after you cry and realize they’re your only hope. Wake up, fools! Also I’ve meet the toughest of the tough and every one of you cries when sentenced to jail.

What an exciting time for Chicago Blackhawks fans! Not only does the team get the recognition it deserves, but the sport of hockey finally makes the headlines and news tickers. The Blackhawks had an exciting start to the season and now they will hopefully end it with the Stanley Cup. Go Hawks!
