If I was a carpenter and did a lousy job then I would feel terrible. How do these legislators from Illinois go to work every day and actually think they are doing a good job and have a smile on their face?

Esther Williams recently passed away. She was statuesque in a bathing suit and star of the water spectaculars that parents could take their children to see. She never wore a bikini because she needed to swim in her suit, not just walk around and pose. She made synchronized swimming popular. She did for swimming what no star has done since. She will forever be remembered for the spectacular underwater swimming scenes. She was a beauty in and out of the water.

Bernadine from Palos Heights

Many people are unemployed and unskilled. You should think about becoming a politician. You’ll get paid for doing nothing.

Mike P. from Chicago

It seems like the NHL referees call the games in the playoffs differently than they do during the regular season. They let a lot of things go during the playoffs. They should play the playoffs just like they do the regular season. All of this stuff does nothing but take away from the game of hockey.

U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin is up for re-election in 2014. He will be 70 years old. Don’t you think it’s time to get old man Durbin out of Washington, D.C.? Even if you still want to vote for a Democrat, can’t we get a 30-year-old in office?

I think the government is not listening to your phone calls. The government has never listened to your phone calls. The evil Bush administration never listened to your phone calls and the not-as-evil-as-Bush-but-still-pretty-evil Obama administration is not continuing a program to listen to your phone calls. Now then, if you happen to be calling someone from a foreign country that happens to have a lot of recent terrorist activity, then maybe the government would trace your call under the supervision of a congressional oversight committee and judge’s order. No one is listening to your calls.

Remember that cute little kittens and puppies turn into cats and dogs.

Jean from Oak Forest

I am tired of hearing nothing but talk when it comes to bringing jobs to the Southland. Years ago they were talking about rebuilding the Dixie Square Mall in Harvey. What happened? I’ll get excited when the digging begins.

BJ from Hazel Crest

I wish the newspapers would print a list of these companies that are shipping jobs overseas for cheaper wages and then coming back here and charging us top dollar. That way the American people would not buy their products. I will go with holes in my shoes like I did when I was a kid just so these companies wouldn’t make a dollar. If it wasn’t made here in America then I wouldn’t buy it.

There should be no leniency for former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife, former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson, and no staggered terms for the Jacksons. They did the crime so they should do the time. Now their names go on the state of Illinois’ Wall of Shame.

Don from Palos Hills

It makes no sense how they can pass a medical marijuana bill yet make cuts in the food stamp programs for the disabled and poor.

Chicago Ridge

I want the candidates to wake up. Why would anybody vote for someone who was a threat to their entitlements? Before the midterm elections be ready to see many bones thrown out. This was proven in the last election. Wake up, people!

Tony from the South Side

We taxpayers are paying for criminals to have cable television yet we complain about people with Link cards. I’d bet 99 out of 100 do deserve their Link cards. I hope enough people complain and they take cable television out of our prisons. People are going hungry while a murderer watches television? I don’t think so.

As a longtime resident in the area of Flossmoor School District 161, I am extremely disappointed with what has been going on with our school district over the past few years. I ask the board to do something to make significant changes. Teachers’ morale is very low. The leadership is very questionable. We have had a very successful school district for years, but I think the people who have come aboard over the past few years are out of touch with what we have accomplished in this community. Please make some changes before it’s too late.

Phil Kadner hit the nail on the head with his column regarding Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan aka Madigan the Magnificent. As a retired schoolteacher living on a small pension, I fear and am angry about what’s going on in Springfield. I think Madigan is happy to change my future while he’s happy and comfortable in his and paving the way for his daughter Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan to ascend into politics. Why do people keep re-electing this man? It’s because they are afraid of the alternative. Most people are more scared of Republicans and what they can do.

Chicago Ald. Howard Brookins Jr. wants to raise the fine for littering to $1,500 and confiscation of your car. I wonder if he or his limo driver went out to pick up the garbage that he saw being tossed out. If not, then maybe he should be fined as well.

Tinley Park

I think all of the names should be exposed in the Congregation of Christian Brothers scandal. They named Brother Robert Brouillette. They should name all of them.
