I couldn’t agree more with fashion designer Lauren Lein’s Daily Splash column. Shop “Made in Chicago” or “Made in America.” How about opening a store in the southwest suburbs?

What is wrong with all of these people complaining about the Internal Revenue Service targeting Tea Party groups for tax-exempt status? The IRS is doing its job. These Tea Party groups have no right to apply for tax-exempt status. The IRS should be praised for upholding the law. Maybe the IRS should take another step forward and go after any churches that are prompting their parishioners to vote for certain candidates and against certain referendums. Remove the churches’ tax-exempt status and let them become a political platform or keep their nose out of politics.

Craig Ferguson is the worst TV personality. He is the guy on “The Late Late Show” with an English accent, and his jokes aren’t funny. I often wonder how this guy stays on television. I also wonder how the TV show “Frasier” stayed on as long as it did.

Rick from Evergreen Park

Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan apparently doesn’t have a cellular phone. Gov. Pat Quinn could not contact him about a recent pension reform meeting. Maybe Madigan should sign up for a free cell phone because he can’t afford to buy one.

Affirmative action should be abolished. It makes as much sense as lowering all of the basketball goals to accommodate a little person who wants to join the NBA. If you don’t have the qualifications then we shouldn’t have to lower our standards. And we shouldn’t have to abide to a different standard just because of race or skin color. If we do, then all goals in the NBA should be at 5 feet.

Pete from Oak Lawn

If a woman keeps having illegitimate children with gangbangers, how do you think these children are going to grow up?

Why do large companies such as hotels and cable companies have 800 numbers? When you call you often get someone overseas and you can’t understand them. So many people here in the United States are looking for jobs and speak fluent English. Is everything about money and greed?

B.J. from Orland Park

I’ll tell you why no one cares about our $4.49-a-gallon gasoline prices. It’s because they always tout the so-called national-average gas prices, which are never higher than $4. I think it means nothing to President Obama or anyone else that we in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs are constantly paying $4.29 a gallon or more. Take the national average and add 80 cents, at least. That is the Chicago-Crook County average for gas prices. No one cares about this number because it makes everyone look bad especially Democrats.

Former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife, former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson, should get the book thrown at them. Both of them disgraced their offices numerous times, spanning a long period of time. They each made a mockery of their offices and the people they represented and deceived. Now they want to have special time periods in jail for their benefit? Our laws never allowed that for other married criminal couples. The Jacksons shouldn’t get preferential treatment. They should each get the limit.

Alsip Joe

I read new Hazel Crest Mayor Vernard Alsberry Jr. is requesting an inspector general. It is a smart move to have an audit to expose all the prior administration’s skeletons in the closets. The proof in the pudding will be if he continues to be so willing to allow audits during his administration.

There are thieves stealing off of graves at Skyline Memorial Park in Monee. If you have family member at that cemetery, beware. They will take decorations off of graves.

Donna S. from East Hazel Crest

The first thing that has to be done before we pass an immigration bill is secure the border. Why is it so difficult for some of our congressmen to understand that? If and when our economy improves, more undocumented immigrants will come into America. I believe many immigrants who came here legally would like the border secured. If Congress can’t agree on securing the border first, I hope the bill fails.

This is a member of the Link card police . Why, why, why can’t they put photos on the Link cards? This would stop a lot of abuse.

I’d like the recent Speak Out commenter on minimum wage to explain exactly how they live on $330 a week. Remember, that amount is pretax (income and Social Security). I took a quick glance in ads for apartments for rent. I didn’t see many lower than $600 a month and most were more, much more. With more than half of one’s take-home pay going just for rent, how does this person pay for electricity, transportation, food, medical care, clothing, etc.? Notice that I’ve not mentioned any extras. I think the commenter is full of hot air.

Chicago

Are these religious communities really willing to risk their tax-exemption status? This fight for marriage equality isn’t theirs. It’s between the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the government. You can get married and never step foot into a church. Christians, this isn’t your war. Don’t put your nose where it doesn’t belong. If using the Bible as baseless defense never worked for convicted murderers, it won’t work for you. The law is not religion, and your religion is not the law.
