One of the best sights of summer is all the dogs being walked in the city of Chicago and the suburbs. I love seeing all those smiling faces and just general rays of sunshine. It makes my day.
Thank you, Phil Kadner, for the Father’s Day treat. Your recent column about your dad brought to mind memories of my dad who was also a good influence in my life. We are the lucky ones who have or had dads who taught us every day in small ways about life and how to live it. I see in the columns you write your dad’s positive influence. Unbeknownst to you, his influence was profound. It was a great column.

Have you ever noticed that some people who use a Link card also have tattoos? You can’t afford to buy food for yourself but you can spend $300 to get a tattoo? There is something wrong here. We do need the Link card police.

I, too, am worried about former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. and former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson’s kids. I’m worried about when the parents go to prison, even if one stays home while the other is in prison, that the kids are still going to be raised by common criminals or crooks.

I think an audit in Hazel Crest is a good idea. I think this is what should be done with every newly elected official.
I would hope that America is spying on other countries. I think they are all spying on us. I can remember we had to tear down the U.S. Embassy in Moscow because they bugged it so bad. Spying isn’t anything new. Some Chinese hackers are trying to get into all of our stuff. It’s no secret. The only thing we can do to protect ourselves is to do the same thing right back to them.
Chicago Teachers Union president Karen Lewis is blaming the school closings partly on “rich white people.” Between her and U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, the race card is running rampant in Chicago. Does Karen Lewis realize that if white people didn’t pay their taxes then black children in many areas would go hungry? Is it the white person’s fault that black attendance in some schools is so bad and some graduations rates are so low? Wake up, Lewis! Stop playing the race card. She and Rush are the true racists.

Pepper’s Lemont Auto Care offers great service. Mike, Bruce and Bill are competent and polite service people.

One of the things I love about the Southland is how friendly people are.
I guess I’d better be careful what I say over the phone to Speak Out. The government might get wind of certain things I say and audit my tax returns and investigate me. It’s a shame but that is what is happening in America. Because the news media often doesn’t report things like this, we are going to get the government we deserve. This is not what the founders had in mind. I think the media doesn’t report abuses. What a shame!
Thomas Gross, who owns a seven-figure penthouse in Trump Tower in Chicago, recently complained that his property taxes went up by more than $86,000 this year. Anytime Mr. Gross, vice chairman and chief operating officer of Cleveland-based Eaton Corp.,would like to trade salaries with me, I would gladly oblige him.

I had a crush on Esther Williams when I was 15 years old. I tried to see every movie she was in. She was wonderful. She was the reason why I took up swimming.
I think a rodeo in New Lenox is a good idea. There is nothing like a good rodeo, and it would keep a lot of young men out of trouble. There’s even a rodeo school in Robbins. You can cause a lot of noise with a recent concert. Do you think a rodeo would cause that much noise? We should get behind Heriberto Aguirre and get him a place to hold these rodeos.
The Chicago aldermen are worried about a plastic bag ban. I think they ought to worry about how they can stop all of this crime, shootings and killings. They have their priorities mixed up. Let’s use our heads. Don’t worry about plastic bags.
As a former professional law enforcement officer and chief executive and a graduate of the FBI National Academy, one of the world’s premier academies, I was totally stunned when FBI director Robert Mueller responded to the questions of Congress in the manner in which he did. My sympathy goes to the agents and the personnel serving the FBI now. It sadly seems like it has been politicized.
You can tell it’s summer in Park Forest. The thieves have returned from their winter hideaways. They have already began their assault on businesses and their catalytic converters. What puzzles me is that for the amount to replace these catalytic converters, businesses could have bought high-tech, top-of-the-line surveillance systems. What are the Park Forest police doing about this? Why haven’t they figured out a pattern? It seems to happen every couple weeks.

Roseland Community Hospital holds so many vivid memories for me. My sister and I were born there, we both had our tonsils and appendix taken out there and my father died there. It will be so sad if that hospital closes, but it will be just one more nail in the coffin of places from my childhood that I cannot go back to and visit for one reason or another.
